Do careerbuilder.com and similar sites actually work?

I'm suspicious of careerbuilder because it's really easy to apply for jobs. I'm used to online job applications taking 10-30 minutes with tons of redundant questions. Easy, practical job searching feels too good to be true. Am I wasting my time?

It's a completely legitimate website that is still used by some companies for hiring. If you want a job with anyone that is advertising through them there's no reason it should be a waste of time to apply.

I'd been searching for a new job over the past couple of years, while still employed at my old job, and finally got a new one this month. I've been sent jobs through careerbuilder, indeed, and dice and even gotten interviews out of them. That said, the job I finally got hired for I found after I started using Linkedin Premium for free (which I cancelled as soon as the trial was done, it's way too expensive). I also feel like filling out my Linkedin profile thoroughly, connecting with work associates, and getting endorsed from those associates on my skills also helped. I could be wrong, but it feels like Linkedin (the free version) is becoming more important from a networking/online hiring standpoint.

    Careerbuilder is boss.

They have an app that you can apply to jobs from while you are pooping if you have uploaded your resume. Now you do get a lot of recruiters calling you if you publish your resume, Aerotek, adecco, randstad. I've gotten a ton of interviews and a few job offers from career builder postings. Most jobs listed are legitimate listings (monster is mostly spam jobs and shit listings).

Careerbuilder is the second most responsive, Craigslist is oddly enough the most responsive site. But that carries different risks.

Good to know careerbuilder is not bunk! My life experience has conditioned me to feel most comfortable when things are needlessly complex and difficult to deal with. If the task I'm trying to accomplish is easy, I feel that something ain't right.

I tried to use Craigslist once and I got nowhere. I remember being perplexed on how to search it and that's unusual for me. I may have to try it again.

Also I will look into using LinkedIn. I admit, I'm trepidatious about it. I generally abhor any kind of social media, with the PA forums being the standout exception.

Indeed is what I used to get my last two jobs, and also what I used at my last job to find all the employees we hired.

It sometimes has those quick apply options, but it's has every job listing, for sure.

The application process for one job I applied for somehow went through CareerBuilder at one point. I made the mistake of saying "Yes" when it asked whether I wanted to post my profile to prospective employers, and then promptly got spammed with emails from scammers for a while. So don't do that.

I know that for my specific job and employer they only accept applications through the company website but careerbuilder routinely lists positions that I assume some scammer just copy-grabs because it's a desirable company and an easy way of farming up personal information. I would just suggest that any company posting you feel like going after on careerbuilder, you check the company website to verify they're actually hiring for that position. Be wary of job postings that sound too good to be true no matter what third party listing you look at.

This is good advice no matter what site you are using. Especially since I've seen several companies have warnings on their career sites lately about fraudulent job offers.

I tend to like free LinkedIn because a lot of times you can even see who posted the position. Plus even for the jobs that don't have the "easy apply" they will send your profile to the recruiter that made the posting when you click the "apply" button that directs you to the company's website (you can select for them not to do this). My wife recently got an interview for a job before she had time to complete the application because of this.

Already got a few callbacks! One of them looks like a good fit. I will feel so dramatically better if I can get a good job from this.
