Hey guys, can you recommend any movies, TV shows, high detail video game cutscenes or CG animations that feature dragons in either a modern or futuristic setting?
So far I've got Reign of Fire and... that's about it.
All I care about here is visuals because I'm cutting clips together for a little project, so even if it's just like 10 seconds of footage that's still great. The whole "no medieval fantasy" caveat is making things a bit difficult.

If it's very flexible, maybe some of the fire breathing beetles or flying bugs from Starship Troopers?
It's been a while since I've seen it, but I'm pretty sure that Alien 3 had one of the convicts referring to the xenomorph as a dragon while looking suitably insane. Not sure what your project is but that might be of use.
I think Heavy Metal had some dragons in it, but I'm pretty sure (and, again, it's been a while) that those dragons were more medieval settings or post apocalyptic settings that were essentially medieval with high tech ruins in the background.
Similarly, Thundarr the Barbarian was technically in the future. But neither of those are seem like the particularly high quality animation that you're looking for.
Falcor's charge in the end of The Never Ending Story might work, but I'm pretty sure that was puppet work rather than animation/cgi.
Harry Potter comes to mind, though most of the dragons there are in essentially a medieval setting (big castle in the background seems a give away) though the bleachers might change that (Goblet of Fire), but one of the last two (Deathly Hallows 1 and 2) had the escape from the goblin bank on a dragon.
Maybe you could find a Skyrim mod that replaces one of the cities with a modern one?
Best of luck on this.

Might also be listed under D-Wars.

There are more clips on YouTube.

Not much showing the dragon to actually be in modern times in that one though, aside from the clothing on the kids when in the same shots.
Edit: Oh, Dragon Fighter's been mentioned already. Well, I'm out of ideas then.

Final Fantasy 15 has some huge awesome dragons. The fight with Leviathan where she upends not-Venice-but-it's-totally-Venice is rather cinematic and "I am a flying guy shooting missiles" anime, but it's great:

Xenoblade Chronicles X features space marines in giant robots fighting alien flora/fauna which includes giant reptiles and mecha-dragons.
Lost Planet 2 is a sci-fi shooter that features gorgeous monsters, with the Debouse being a giant enemy influenced by multiple reptiles:

Because it must be said, absolutely positively the finest dragons that have ever been animated when it comes to seeming like real live creatures are in Monster Hunter, even though this violates your modern/future constraint.

P.S: Same thing goes for the giant flying thing in the first Avengers movie.

Transformers Beast Machine also had a dragon form Megatron. Also a werewolf named Noble that transforms into a dragon (named Savage).
Chrono Cross also has some good dragons in the cut scenes.

Final Fantasy summons in 7 and later might work. Got three different Bahamuts to work with in 7 alone.
8 has Leviathan and Bahamut
Bahamut vs Alexander in 9 is awesome, though the architecture tends more towards medieval than the modern/future you're looking for.
10 Bahamut again.
That's pretty much where Final Fantasy lost me. I'm an old, I like my console RPGs to have my party lining up on one side of the screen, the monsters on the other, then we take turns bashing each other with random numbers until one of us is dead.
Bravely default also had some vaguely dragonish summons. In particular Hresvelgr, though Promethean Fire might fit the bill too.

FFXIV has Flames of Truth

Which features both medieval aspects as well as futuristic magi-tek elements and also some architecture you could mistake for somewhere in the Mediterranean.
The original FFXIV trailer has dragons fighting against magi-tek airships with machine-gun and rocket fire.
