Shame that the class is pigeonholed into a single archetype but I have bad memories of goblins vs gnomes midrange being dominant for a year so it deserves to be bottom of the pile
It's doing really badly in Seatstory Cup
Tournament is way, way different than ladder though.

wait hold on shaman was trash during GvG, it only had one aggressively mediocre deck in mech shaman for a long time wherein the only good cards were mechwarper, whirling zap-o-matic, and powermace
it was LoE to the first rotation where we were in the shamanosphere
No doomguards, no skull, no darkpacts, no spirit singer. Only voidlords, lackeys, cubes, and rin.
Sounds like a tournament deck. That would get run over by aggro on ladder.

big spell aggro hunter is absolutely fucking ridiculous and works much better than satellite priest because the hero power lets you close games out asap
Aggro hunter shell but with 2x spiteful summoner, grand archivist and 2x call of the wild
Along with candleshot/dire mole/alleycat/crackling razormaw/bearshark/houndmaster and the time honoured neutral package of patches + southsea, cobalt scalebane, bonemare and corridor creeper

I dunno, I think the opposite is true. The doomguards are there to give you reach and burst vs slower match ups. Against aggro you want voidlords 100% of the time. By dropping some of the package you can fit in corridor creepers and tar lords. If you don't have doomguards, you don't need skull. You already have a win condition with rin + nzoth + guldangerous. You don't need cubed doomguards.
The question is consistency vs aggro. Losing skull reduces your options to cheat out demons. But, you are always guaranteed to grab a voidlord. He was running it at high legend. I think it might do better vs zoo and paladin.
If you aren't running Doomguards and Dark Pact, what is the point of the Cubes then? The basic combo is Doomguard > Cube > Dark Pact for triple Doomguards.

Actually the version I've seen (and I run) doesn't run any doomguards. It's all about infinite voidlords and constantly clearing board.
The moment you cheat out a voidlord aggro's game is over, and you have defile + other clears to live until then.
You basically win by fatiguing them due to infinite voidlords or your rin also just wins by tempo.

Unless I'm missing something, that's only 28 cards. Are the last two tech slots based on what you're running into (spellbreakers for silence, for example?)
Like I don't disagree that that would be better vs aggro, but it seems like a different deck at that point.
That's why I said it was interesting. You cut out skull and doomguards and spiritsinger and the deck still works.
It plays basically the same. Only now you are better vs aggro. You still have nzoth and guldangerous and rin as win conditions against slower decks. I mean, it certainly is less fun to play. Cheating out doomguards is a lot of fun. But I think it might be a better deck.
I'm running skull, 2x doomguards, 2x darkpacts, and spirit singer. I could replace those with rin, 2x tar creeper, 2x cooridor creeper, and another twisting nether. That would drastically improve my winrate vs zoo and paladin. I could see doing worse vs mage though without the darkpacts. I really really don't want to craft rin though.
Also, some of those midrange big spell decks are scary as shit. Having another twisting nether might be good. They tend to run out of steam around turn 7-8 if you can clear their board.
I'd like to play the minionless Hunter, but don't have the dust for Rhok'delar, x2 By My Side, and x2 Call of the Wild. Putting those spells at Epic was high-level trolling.
I mean I could start dusting non-standard cards but I really don't want to get rid of anything in my collection. Especially to play a deck that might not be good.

I swear the quest bug is just getting worse over time. Changed language, logged in on mobile, then back on PC, etc. Stuff that seemed to kick it in the butt for the last week or so. Can't get a new quest to show up today.

Matchups:
Looks like Aggro Paladin and Big Priest are the meta definers, covering each others weaknesses. Aggro Paladin is favored against the other T1 decks, Big Priest (58%) and Secret Mage (62%) and most of the rest of the field. It's poor matchups are Cubelock (46%), Tempo Rogue (45%) and kind of Aggro Druid (48%). Big Priest, while losing to Paladin, beats the Paladin counter decks of Cubelock (70%), Tempo Rogue (54%), and Aggro Druid (65%). In turn, the Big Priest counter decks, Kingsbane Rogue (37%) and Midrange Hunter (42%), are getting stomped by Paladin which beats them 75% and 59% of the time respectively.
I predict a meta cycle where Paladin population grows until people are forced into Cubelock and Tempo Rogue, then Priest population grows as a response, then a shift back to Paladin to beat Priest.

whenever i switch to big priest i always start queuing into kingsbane mill which is, like, absolutely zero chance in hell that i'm winning that one
huh, well. drakonid operative has taught me that medivh is pretty good value in big spell priest.
summoning random 8 and 10 mana guys is pretty good, especially when you can do it over and over and over.
I'm trying an umbra-less cubelock and it's basically mirror matches. Where are all the aggro paladins now??

I am doing rather well with Big Priest now that I have cut Ysera
It solves 2 problems: now I am far more likely to get a taunt from Barnes/spellstones, and I'm far less likely to have a gummed up hand with useless minions that pollute the resurrect pool
Lich King provides far more immediate value in being a taunt that shits out frostmournes/death grips/mortal coils

I got the list from /r/competitivehs there's an article about some guy getting legend with it
It's standard big priest except no Ysera, and shadow word horror but no pint-sized potion
Also it runs 2x silence to beat warlocks
Has a fairly good matchup against most of the field except murlocdin and the mirror since it's teched so much anti aggro and drops the value engine of Ysera

I'd think it'd be the opposite.
Lackey guarantees a Voidlord pull. Being able to get out Voidlord on T6 vs Aggro is a deathknell for Aggro.
But it sounds weaker vs slower control decks because you no longer have Doomguards.

somehow I failed to open any archivists, though
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
It's big spell/satellite
Big priest is the one with obsidian statues/Barnes/Y'shaarj/diamond spellstones etc
I'm a purveyor of odd deck names (salad rogue ftw) but how in the world did that get named "satellite"?
