I only ever read the first Mortal Engines book as a teenager, but it was perfectly serviceable as a weird hybrid between the Road Warrior's car chases and the gothic brutality of 40k and in that regard the trailer seems to have gotten the tone right
Whether or not the story itself translates to screen well is anyone's guess but hey, it's at least pretty unique for YA apocalyptic science fiction (predates Hunger Games and Made Runner by a bit too I'm fairly sure)

I saw the trailer for A Wrinkle In Time when I went to see Star Wars. The trailer was cool. Very colorful and vivid design, but with some pretty dark overtones. I haven't read that book in about 20 years and now I want to re-read it (and the other books in the cycle).
I've never read the book and I have no idea what that movie is about

I'm going to see A Wrinkle in Time if for no other reason than because the lady is obsessed with it, but the trailer reeked of We Put All the Best Parts Here, like a lot of other YA film adaptations

Mortal Engines is some trippy stuff. The earth shakes and London does not fall into the Underzee but instead puts itself on wheels with an engine. Other cities in Europe follow suit and soon all the cities are chasing and eating each other for resources.

I have seen the Wrinkle in Time trailer a bunch and I am very worried that movie isn't going to do well
The trailers do a really, really bad job of telling you what the movie is actually about and instead it's just a bunch of weird imagery and Oprah and Mindy Kalling in weird outfits running with CG flowers and also Chris Pine has a beard
I want Ava DuVernay to get a smash hit but as someone who has zero experience/history with the book it ain't selling me
Someone needs to tell him he's not though and should really just shut his mouth.
who is he trying to help though?
I think, and I'm being purely speculative, that he thinks he can just kind of help everyone heal if they don't talk about it as much and instead concentrate on allllll of the men who aren't utter scum.
OR... He's sexually harassed a thousand women.
It could go either way

I agree with all of this but I would like to add that I do think that the weird imagery is at least very cool

Yeah I haven't read the book and the movie looks like pretty standard young adult fantasy adventure (granted, with an emphasis on the "pretty"). The trailer just really doesn't stand out as something special.

I know I read a wrinkle in time as a kid but I’ll be damned if I can tell you a single thing that happened in it.
I remember liking it though.
Will see movie.
I'm pretty sure there was a scary clown in it, right?

The book is like, 90% exposition explaining the dilemma, what a tesseract is in a way a child would understand, and dialogue between IT and the kids about philosophy.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

these are terrible options, steve
I didn't say either one of them were good. I'm just speculating on what he's doing.

No, the IT in the book is a big brain that mentally dominates people into creating its “perfect society” and in order to find their father, one of the kids has to agree to be mentally controlled by IT first.

I almost get a John Carter vibe from the WiT trailer where it's meant to be this iconic thing where everyone knows who these characters are
And it's definitely a well known book
But maybe not quite as well known as they are thinking

Me neither! But it was colorful and neat and I remember thinking the book was great as a young'un.

it's a good book and the sequels are buck wild

I certainly don’t remember Ms Whosit Whatsit and the third one being described like that.
"Your dad was a scientist, he did a thing and he's captured now. Go save him"
oprah, stop making kids fight battles
that's not cool
sometimes you're in a YA novel and you just gotta fight robits/wizards/clowns/wizard clowns
