I had the good fortune to live with a cousin who was a teenager/young adult during the 90s and aughts and she got me into so many bands
she took me to see RENT, with the original cast! when I was a wee boy
I got to meet Anthony Rapp and Jesse L. Martin (Law and Order Dad from the Flash) afterwards and they were like, really nice.
They signed a shirt I got and were mildly concerned that this little kid knew RENT by heart

(One of) My much maligned 90's bands to go to bat for is Blind Melon. Most folks only know No Rain, but that whole album is pretty dang good and the next two were even better.
I did used to be a person that dunked on Bush. The interview they did where they insinuated that Nirvana had, in fact, ripped them off, didn't really help. But, I saw them live at a festival recently, and I have to admit they sounded great and a bunch of their songs were bangers in person. Still not my faves, but, yeah, Bush is pretty all right.
I thought Jerry Springer went off the air 15 years ago.
I think around late 90s/early 00s they had to change the format away from “guests punch each other and the stage fills with fighting family members and security people” to a more broadcast-friendly “guests get really angry with each other and either storm off the stage, or are grabbed by security before anybody actually ‘hits’ anybody else”
And I feel like around that same time is when the show dropped out of pop culture. The one thing that made it stand out from stuff like Maury was taken away (even if that One Thing was bad), which makes it even more surprising to me that it kept going.
I guess it found it’s niche of a certain flavor of “who’s the cheater?” And with production costs being so cheap, it just kept chugging along.
So I would like to talk about that thing that popped in the 90's and yet people still try to put things into a style or genre.
Luscious Jackson is one of those bands that played music
Ohh 90s music. Timely. I've been on a bit of a binge recently with a particular type of late 90s Australian music, usually just pushed into the genre 'alternative'. For example:
I've been on the phone to my brother querying whether perhaps he still has some of this stuff on CDs lying around to complement what's in my collection. Important, because much of it's not printed/otherwise available now, and I don't have that Fini Scad record, for example.
Anyway this was all brought to mind by the above posts because I know he has Sparkle and Fade on CD, and I don't.
Bonus video - this doesn't really count as part of my recent 90s binge because I never stopped listening to Something for Kate, but it's the same era.
Hah, last night I busted out Ammonia - Keep on My Side on YouTube while I was cooking dinner because I used to have the 11th Avenue CD and it has gone missing many years ago. This then led into a lot of other good stuff like Sidewinder - Titanic Days (and then just into Like a Versions).
Also, Paul Dempsey from Something for Kate is my wife's official Musical Husband.

The Jerry Springer Show was still on?
I just discovered this the other day.
"I will buy you a new car that is perfect shiny and new, yes it's new and also new"
kinda drives me crazy

The use of this song when it came to the various relationship problems they showed on that show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDgTRY9vGCM
but in this ever changing world in which we live in it makes perfect sense!
Did you intentionally quote Live and Let Die?
That's "But if this ever changin' world/
In which we live in/
Makes you give in and cry/
Say live and let die"
mmmmmmaybe
but it appears I was a little off

Seems appropriate
I never finish anyth
No Rain is a perfectly fine novelty song.
Skinned, on the other hand...
I think I'm good on kazoo based songs about Ed Gein, Blind Melon.
Soup is such a great album
Skinned, Galaxy, and Lemonade are all fantastic tracks
what about Chili Peppers inspired fictional songs about cannibal bus drivers by Pearl Jam?
