Soul Calibur Legends: Spinoff with waggle, anyone?
A little bird told me that a certain fighting franchise that came to Gamecube is coming back to Wii in the form of some kind of adventure game, not a fighting game. I'm thinking Namco is going to announce a Soul Calibur adventure title. Personally, this might repair some of my ill will towards Namco (I'm still really annoyed about Soul Calibur 3). Thoughts on this? Think it might be something other than Soul Calibur?
Hmm.
I'd get if provided if it got good reviews.
It looks like the kind of idea that could be awesome but has to be done right or else it will fail miserably.

Yes! Soul Calibur 2 is one of the very few fighting game I truly enjoy - it's fast, it has weapons, and you can play as motherfucking Link (in the GC version, at least)! Man, I was really pissed when I first heard about Soul Calibur 3 not beeing released on my precious Gamecube. Well, we now know that it ended up not so great, so I don't think I have missed much.
Anyway, I would fucking love a new Soul Calibur game on the Nintendo Wii, even if it's just an adventure-esque spinoff.
Know what we Gamecube owners missed when we didn't get Soul Calibur 3? Getting our save files eaten.
I didn't quite understand that move from Namco anyway. Wasn't the GC version the best selling game?
Sony issued Namco with money hats.
This is probably 100% correct. Just look at how very very bad Soul Calibur 3 was, Namco quite obviously shat it out as fast as they could manage.
It's all about the money hats baby.
Er, pardon? What's so bad about Soul Calibur 3? Apart from the tragic story mode, the challenges are a blast and working through with your own custom character in a fighting game has always been a dream, let alone custom characters in what is one of the best fighting franchises around. It's certainly not the breakthrough that SC2 was but it's a fine game.

people like myself expected more from the greatest fighter of all time. marginal improvements are fine for OTHER fighting games but not Soul Cal. It's (was) the king.

Agreed, SC3 is fantastic. It plays great, the new characters are fun, the new arenas are bloody gorgeous (the whole game is among the best looking ones on the PS2, seriously I never expected a PS2 game could look THAT good), and it's still the best and most engaging 3D fighting system on the planet. I even liked the Chronicles mode a lot, though I could never beat that damn bastard of a final boss.

This is one of those things that Nintendo fanboys always like to bitch about. Yes, it sucked that the third game wasn't multi-console like the second one was, it doesn't mean that third one was shit.
I don't know what was wrong with 3, really, I didn't play too much of it, though. It just didn't feel right to me, and I lost days of my life to 2. Maybe the magic was just gone? (Even though I still play 2 often with friends, and still love it?)

Me being a GC-only owner last-gen I'm completely content that we got such an awesome fighting game. Soul Calibur II is the sole reason that I've begun to learn to love fighting games.
Now I can't wait til' I hear emmanating from my TV a voice of a god saying:
I've never played 3 because I was a Xbox/GCN person but I have heard it has serious balancing issues.
It pisses me off that I supported 2 twice (once JPN, once USA) and then 3 didn't come to GCN. especially considering the GCN version sold better than the other 2.
So, third person action adventure with multiple characters and fighting styles? Using the Wii remote and nunchuck simultaneously to pull off moves (where did I read that? 1up? Damn it, I need a link!)? Level/rank ups to gain access to new moves? Solid, proven production team (SC team, booyah!) and awesome concept art...
I can't help it. I'm psyched. Please God, don't let me down here. I need a hot action title for the Wii.
Please put some effort into the graphics. Please, just a little. Make them as stylish as the concept art and we're golden. Make it ooze style, and I'll forgive you the occasionaly jaggy and poor texture effect.
Fuck it up and I'll have Terrorbyte eat your cocks.

An adventure game with fighting using the Wii Power Glove would be fucking awesome.

Basically, as much as I just said is in the podcast. I was just having fun being cryptic. :P
I am being completely serious, by the way.

What with this and Steven Spielberg's recently confirmed Wii exclusive, and think any concerns over a Wii drought should evaporate (olol pun)

Well it didn't hurt, but I would have bought it if link wasn't in it at all. I love Soul caliber/edge.
Pretty weak, OP.
well, it definately swayed me to get the GC one over the PS2 one.
HOTTT

I fully expect there to be a fighting game sequel to 3, but I'm excited as hell about this spin-off.
Finally a good weapon based wiimote game on the Wii. 8-)
NO!
never.
Also, neogaf posters are fucking retarded and I hope they get cancer.
Anyway, it's nice news.
Curse you, imageshack!
Please let the game live up to it. Please let the game live up to it.
