I return again, with another strange issue with using my Xbox One controller that I've been using on my PC.
I had it working perfectly via bluetooth on my PC. I just received a Steam Link, and wanted to connect it via bluetooth to that. Reading the pairing instructions, Microsoft's website says I should press the Xbox button, upon which it will light up. I then hold down the pair button for 3 seconds, and it will start to flash and be in pairing mode. This has definitely worked before!
Something appears to have gone terribly wrong in my attempts to pair with my Steam Link. When I pressed the Xbox button, it would slowly flash for a few seconds and then turn off. It wouldn't really stay on long enough for me to be able to hold the pairing button down for 3 seconds -- as such, I was never able to get Steam Link to find it. I noticed my PC making windows noises in the other room, and realize it's trying to pair with the controller, which seems like it could be causing the controller to be confused. So I unpair the controller from my PC, and turn the bluetooth off on my PC. I go back to the steam link, and get the same issue -- the xbox button slowly blinks a few times, then turns off.
So I start to think maybe the batteries are going bad. I replace them, and try again. After a couple of attempts to no avail, I am now stuck with my controller not staying turned on for more than a split second. I click the xbox button and nothing happens -- if I hold it down, it will flash quickly on and off, but just a click is doing nothing. It's not flashing as if it's pairing, it's flashing as if it's repeatedly trying to start up -- attempts to connect to bluetooth reveal it is definitely not staying on long enough to do that.
During my testing I definitely held down the bluetooth pairing button for random amounts of time, upwards of 10 seconds to see if it would decide to pair. Did this jack up my controller, and is there some way to un jack up my controller? I can't even pair it to my PC anymore, let alone the steam link. It works completely fine when plugged in. I already have it updated -- is there some way to reset the drivers or the controller? Removing batteries and such is doing nothing -- I appear to have bricked it while working not plugged in somehow. I've tried numerous sets of batteries, and have also tried my roommate's Xbox One controller to make sure I'm not doing something crazy. His turns on and connects to bluetooth on my PC just fine, as expected.
