Engagement [chat]

simonwolfsimonwolf i can feel a differencetoday, a differenceRegistered User regular
Hey friends, guess who proposed to simonwaifu

5D55Nydl.jpg

It was me!

So I guess I am officially engaged now, which is REAL WEIRD but I am also very happy and excited!

Here's some general questions answered in advance:

How did you propose?
I took her to the riverside path where we walked for our very first date back in November 2013, found a nice bench to sit down on with a river view and some lush greenery, and popped the question. She was in shock and doesn't remember my speech or that I got on one knee, but she said yes!

When's the wedding?
Unknown! We're looking at November since simonwaifu would like to not have a long engagement.

Where'd you get the ring?
The ring I proposed with was a family heirloom, it was my grandmother's 1937 white gold filigree engagement ring. Unfortunately it doesn't fit simonwaifu's finger so we are getting a new ring custom made and re-using the stone.

I'll post a picture of the happy couple later! Aaaa!

Congrats! That is a beautiful stone. Will the new ring have a similar setting?

Medieval forests tended to be pretty carefully managed.

oh and just in case: when I said half, I mean that regrowth binds about half of the CO2 we put out

would also like to point out that this does not really happen all of its own, and the regrowth of previously cleared areas is only a small part of it. Most of it is that 60% of our forested area is "producing", increasing in mass, and has since the 1920s, done so faster than we've extracted mass. And the active management has been done differently in the last 50 years than the 50 before it.

SSB's forestry people would like to add that the Kyoto agreement did not allow us to subtract the CO2 being taken up by forests, a point that, perhaps, the people who spend their days looking closely at data for wood growth and wood age and CO2 output and binding with various ages and various growth and extraction policies, are perhaps slightly sore about, I would assume mostly because it means fewer people want to listen to them.

Five responsibilities of forest-keepers are evident in the charters, precepts and notifications of the Anglo-Norman kings: protection of the game; protection of the trees; regulation of grazing; distribution of the hunting tithe; and financial accounting for forest resources.

First, they protected the wild game against offenders and presented violators at the forest courts.59
The forest courts were probably a lot less cool than they sound.

it would be pretty much impossible for The Forest Courts to be cooler than they sound

    tho

we called our resistance "gutta på skauen", boys in the woods, which loses a lot of cool points by being incredibly "genial 40s" language

Yes, though not as elevated -- we're going with a similarly engraved shoulder, but without the added extra height.
