I work on Thursday and Friday, so will be joining up for evening activities those days. Probably something low-key would work best for me on Thursday, but that’ll depend on how late and in what state the Ontario crew gets in I suppose. :p

My suggestions would be something like karaoke Friday, Randolph Saturday, with axe throwing in the daytime during the weekend? Banquise would be a late-night affair (possibly after the Randolph evening), we can get smoked meat anywhere/time, and have to go to the Mile-End for bagels at least once (since I work around there, one of the first two evenings would work for me!)

    are you a Fairmount....

    or a St-Viateur?

I’m a St-Viateur man but will not throw a tantrum over having to eat a Fairmount.

Montreal Thursday through Monday! Some folks are coming to Ottawa first for a whirlwind tour before taking the 6:00 Greyhound. (Plans for which include a tour of Parliament, a picnic on the lawn, getting wasted at the cheapest bar/Canadian diner I have EVER SEEN, and of course the traditional Greyhound predrink).

Some folks are staying at the Chateau d'Argoat, as posted up-thread. Presume nightly events will be in reach of there.

We haven't set a specific itinerary for the days - often those tend to come up naturally closer to the event, we find some particularly fun places, and those wind up being traditions in the following years. At the very least expect axe throwing, karaoke, and La Banquise to feature.

My folks and I are staying in the Terasse Royale, though I have no idea how close/far that is from everyone else.

Can this happen yet? Whenever I tell my coworkers about this trip I say the thing I’m most excited about is the weather.

It is 8:26pm and 89F/31.6C and 98% humidity. My app is saying that feels like 122F/50C but it has to be a bad sensor or something.

It'll probably be around 30-35C in mid june. Still cooler than what you're currently experiencing but I will probably complain about it at least once.

100% is the point of saturation, usually known as "rain".

Also, for what it's worth, last year from June 15th to 17th the high was 27.5 C (81.5 F) and the low was 12.3 C (54.1 F), with 29.4 mm (1.2'') of rain. So those temperatures are for an overcast/rainy weekend. Bring a light vest and some raingear just in case, it might also be in the 30s and sunny.

Also if it's at all accessible to someone who has never piloted a mech before

like do I have to get certified in air carrier piloting before I go in there, will the legs just blow off if I press the wrong button

Judging from what I’ve played of Battletech getting your legs blown off will probably happen regardless.

Those old Battletech pods have adjustable levels of controls. The base level is very simple - almost too simple. The most complicated thing would just be using the thumb button on the throttle to reverse instead of going forward.

As you get more used to it they can teach you the buttons to press at the beginning to use more complex controls. Then you can start swiveling your torso to aim in one direction while moving in another. You can also use jump jets then, if your mech has them.

I used to play a ton at the original Battletech center in Chicago, and got to play a good number of games at GenCon last year and the year before to refresh a bit. #1 piece of advice: light mechs are not worth it. Yeah, they're faster and harder to shoot because of it, but nobody will actually be good at maneuvering when you're new to the game. So mostly people will just run straight at each other and blast away at extremely close range until someone dies. A lot of the time the explosion will take out the person who theoretically won the confrontation too. And possibly the third mech that you never even saw who ran in behind you halfway through. Anyway, light mechs blow up waaay too fast. With newer players all that matters is lots of armor and lots of weapons. Choose your favorite looking of the big assault mechs, and go to town :D

Just don't tell Jerry and Mike about the Battletech mech piloting thing or they'll just go themselves and leave you to run the whole place while they're gone...

Sorry we missed you, Suti.. We didn't get there til 10, people are slow to gather. Should have just had everyone meet there. We played two games, one versus and one co op, it was a blast! I was dead last in the former and first in the latter, funnily enough. Guess I just had to get my (giant, steel) sea legs. Really impressed with their selection of free board games and consoles to play between matches too! They have a MAME box with arcade sticks! We'll definitely be going back

It's still not too bad a deal at regular price if you grab the larger ticket bundles.
Took me about 2 hours to play 3 matches (play match, watch match recap, chat with other pilots and the owner, wait for other groups to finish, sign back up, repeat.)
I noticed a lot of people show up at 10-10:30, but by then I was getting along with the guys I randomly joined up with. (One of the guys was actually someone my sister babysat like 20 years ago, and still lives a few blocks away from me, so we're heading back for more stompy bots tonight.)

There's an upstairs section where you can rent tables by the hour to board game/play D&D/whatever, they have a library of 300+ board games, or you can bring your own.

Man guys I was researching places near our hotel for @Mysst and I to grab dinner after getting in on Thursday (since a lot of people are getting in late I figured it might end up just being us that first night, at least for food) and there is a restaurant near our hotel that serves you your meal in total darkness.
