THE PA FANTASY BASEBALL KEEPER LEAGUE HAS AN IMMEDIATE OPENING.
One of our team managers has found that life is too busy and cannot keep up with their team.
REQUIREMENTS
Don't be a dick. We already have @Angry. We don't need another one.
Pay attention to baseball. You don't need to be obsessed with it but since this is a keeper league, you're going to want to pay attention to prospects and suck throughout the year
Be active as far as trades, free agents, and such are concerned.
I'm going to say that having discord is a requirement now. We do 95% of league stuff on there and it's where we chat about baseball in general as well.
That's it for requirements. At this point you'll be taking over an existing team with an existing roster.
I'm not going to go deep into keeper rules here, if you join the league that stuff can be discussed throughout the year and in preparation for next year.
If you're interested just go ahead and say something here and I'll get you in. Not an application or interview process. First come first serve but PLEASE be willing to be active both with your team and in discord.
Angels are just full on sucking today. I guess winning 4 in a row against fellow sub-.500 teams didn't help them get any momentum because they are being torn apart by the Astros. Astros have scored every inning through the 5th so far and lead 8-1.
Kyle Hendricks shut out the Cardinals on 81 pitches yesterday and today a third string catcher hit a grand slam and then Javy Baez hit a go ahead homer, so baseball is ok
That Kris Bryant grand slam was necessary because the Cardinals are very mad at him for his very correct statements about St. Louis
We're house hunting out in the Naperville area right now. I was looking at a house today with a kid's bedroom that was wall to wall Packers and Cardinals memorabilia. In the suburbs of Chicago.
I played 18 up until the day before 19 came out and the difference was pretty stark.
19 is the best the game has been.
they've really cleaned up the skill progression system. i mostly like it
in the olden days it was just manifest destiny that you'd eventually become a 99/99/99/99 hitter... the game just rained points on you and you could spend it on anything
now you actually have to PERFORM the thing you want. so if you want to be good at stealing you HAVE TO STEAL, even if you pick the speedy archetype. if you don't steal you get nothing
if feels way more organic, and the stuff you do game to game matters WAY more now, which makes it more engaging to play game to game

Syndergaard throwing a CG shutout and scoring the only run with a solo home funwas also the first time that's happened in a while (since 1983) and both his outing and the one in '83 were vs the Reds
the Rays scored 6 runs in the first 2 innings and... I just don't remember that ever happening before
it's so nice... having a team that has a real offense...
so many years... spent dreading every bases loaded situation, going "oh no... here comes [this guy] on deck".... I think there's only 1 or 2 guys on the whole roster who have no bat right now. how... how pleasant

Is it worrisome that the Yankees are lurking nearby even though they've been started Todd Bonzalez and co. for the last month?

it is
but at the same time, the Yankees are benefiting from the same phenomenon as the Rays, which is that they get the privilege of playing the dog-ass Orioles and Bluejays 700 times per year
I thought this Arizona series would be a good test... first +.500 team since opening day, and they've closed the deal so... woo
Chicago Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney said in a statement released early this morning that the club is investigating a fan using what appeared to be a hand gesture associated with the white power movement while NBC Sports Chicago reporter Doug Glanville did a TV segment in front of him.
The statement:
"We are currently investigating an incident that occurred during the Cubs’ May 7 broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago while reporter Doug Glanville was on the air. An individual seated behind Mr. Glanville used what appears to be an offensive hand gesture associated with racism.
Such ignorant and repulsive behavior is not tolerated at Wrigley Field. We are reviewing the incident thoroughly because no one should be subjected to this type of offensive behavior.
Any derogatory conduct should be reported immediately to our ballpark staff. Any individual behaving in this manner will not only be removed from the ballpark, but will be permanently banned from Wrigley Field."
As explained here by the Anti-Defamation league, that “OK”-style gesture was originally cast as a “white power” symbol as a trolling hoax by some associated with the alt-right movement. The idea: lots of people make “OK” symbols on camera and, if enough people believed it actually meant “white power,” people who are not engaging in racist behavior would be accused of doing so, thereby undermining legitimate claims of racism as liberal hysteria or people crying wolf.
Then a “funny” thing happened: actual white supremacists started adopting the gesture, allegedly ironically. Irony sort of fails, however, when the person acting “ironically” in this way is, in fact, a white supremacist. Mostly because we are what we do, even if we think we’re acting in such a way “ironically” or even if we’re trying to muddy the waters in some effort to lean-in to a some group identity or belief system. As such, if someone who is cognizant of all of this stuff flashes this symbol as a “joke,” it’s still an offensive act.
I don't know many people who use the okay hand gesture for it's non-signalling of white supremacy use
Like there was that goofy little game people used to play with making an ok sign and then if the other person looked at it, they had put their finger through it in three seconds or you could lightly punch their arm
Like people make the peace sign and the thumbs up sign fairly often, but I don't remember the last time I saw someone us the ok

Like there was that goofy little game people used to play with making an ok sign and then if the other person looked at it, they had put their finger through it in three seconds or you could lightly punch their arm
That's another thing addressed in both the article and the Anti-Defamation League
It is also worth noting that the symbol flashed here is also similar to the so-called “circle game” with which most people who attended middle school at one time or another are familiar. Kind of a “made you look” thing. Which, in addition to the common “OK” symbol, was something the trolls who created the originally phony “white power” narrative were trying to make people confuse for racism. Which means that the Cubs have layers upon layers of garbage to sift through, basically.
Which also means that, even if the context in which the symbol was used — behind a black reporter where it would obviously be seen by TV viewers — is certainly troubling and is worthy of investigation by the Cubs, we should exercise at least some caution before making a definitive determination about what this fan was doing and why.

I'm used to the white power version with the fingers held up, where as if I saw it like that, that's still a meme for "the game" or whatever where if you hold it below your waist and get someone to look at it, it's like the whole dumb "2 for flinching" kids thing.
I've seen streamers sell merch with the OK pointed down on the pant leg for that reason, as well.
I'm not suggesting the guy's doing that or the white power version, it's hard to tell in that case, whereas the white power guys tend to try to make it obvious.
If they have on a maga hat, they're already a racist, but if they make the ok/wp sign while wearing one, or if they have blue lives matter bootlicker cult garb on,

Yep. Makes sense for baseball reasons, since Zobrist is out for undisclosed reasons and a couple people are injured, but...............fuck that. I don't want him on this team, and I'm dreading the positive reactions he's going to get from Cubs fans who either don't know what he did or who do and either don't care or don't believe he did it.
I hope he gets the help he clearly needs, and I hope that help makes it so he doesn't hurt anyone else. But the Cubs putting him in the starting lineup sends the same message they sent when they traded for Aroldis Chapman: they don't give a fuck.

Cubs did the correct thing and announced they banned the fan indefinitely from their stadium

Statement from Crane Kenney on Conclusion of May 7 On-Air Broadcast Incident Investigation:
We have investigated the incident that occurred at Wrigley Field on May 7, 2019, where an individual was observed on camera using an offensive hand gesture that is associated with racism. The long-standing Chicago Cubs Guest Code of Conduct is in place to ensure a safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment for all fans and prohibits unacceptable behavior. After a review of last night’s broadcast footage, we concluded this individual’s actions violated the Guest Code of Conduct.
As a result, after repeated attempts to reach this individual by phone, we sent a letter to the individual notifying him of our findings and our decision that, effectively immediately, he will not be permitted on the grounds of Wrigley Field or other ticketed areas indefinitely. We further communicated if he attempts to enter Wrigley Field or other ticketed areas he may be subject to prosecution for criminal trespass to property.
We are not disclosing the name of the individual to the general public and will not be making any further comment on the matter.

Sounds good. I think I remember you expressing interest in the past as well.
I bounced pretty hard off of 17... they made some changes I wasn't in love with. It was still OK but just less fun overall
19 seems to have fixed most of that, pretty good so far. Also way fewer loading screens weeeee
19 is the best the game has been.
But KB really needed that slam.
We're house hunting out in the Naperville area right now. I was looking at a house today with a kid's bedroom that was wall to wall Packers and Cardinals memorabilia. In the suburbs of Chicago.
I think it broke my brain.
Yes, but it would have better to hit that kind of fuck-off grand slam in St. Louis.
Still time for that, though!

I wonder how that will impact the high speed relievers who only pitch four or five pitches now
My understanding is pitchers will have pitch at least the half inning

Like, don't do it, but if the dude who did it came out and apologized because he didn't know.... I think you kind of have to accept that.
wait. oh my god.

baseball will no longer be embarrassingly slow*
*but only after all these fraud specialists get weeded out via 7-run innings

Also Urban Meyer was in the suite next to ours getting annoyed by my wife slyly trying to get him in the background of our selfies.

edit: And they are calling up Jared Walsh, two-way player, plays first base, right field, and has worked as a left handed relief pitcher.
As a hitter in AAA this year he has been hitting .302/.398/.604 with 10 home runs. Has pitched only 5 innings in AAA this year, 2 earned runs allowed.
