Nice Backpacks/Laptop Sleeves

edited May 2007 in Help / Advice Forum
My sister's birthday is coming up and I was thinking about getting her a new backpack along with maybe a nice notebook sleeve. I remember seeing a link to a website that had some really nice-looking bags, but did not bookmark it at the time. Are there any brands/websites that you guys could recommend for these type of things?

    I highly recommend Timbuk2 bags. http://www.timbuk2.com/

I've had my messenger style bag for 5 years and it held up gorgeously. They sell bags specific for computers, or you can get get a laptop sleeve thrown into most of their styles. Custom colors. Some bags even allow to be drawn on, making something very fun and custom for any artist.

Awesome, I'm pretty sure that's the website that I saw awhile back. And yea rockmonkey, laptop backpacks would fit the deal quite nicely. I think she's getting a small 13inch notebook though, and all of the laptop backpacks that I've seen in person were humongous.

Ogio Nyquist. I got the "old" model which was exactly the same but they only had black/orange left, but it was way cheaper, but it is PERFECT size for my 13" MacBook (+ the Waterfield sleeve I have for it [http://www.sfbags.com/index.htm] ). Nice padded laptop pocket, good organization in the bag (nice pockets and whatnot), and not beastly massively big.

    It rules.

EDIT: OOO THEY HAVE ONE OF THE DISCONTINUED COLORS ON SALE: http://www.ebags.com/ogio/nyquist_discontinued_colors/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=89419

Can anyone suggest a bag that'll actually fit a 17" laptop? Buying it was stupid, and nothing really fits it.

My wife carries her 17" Dell 9300 in this. It's snug, but it fits.

mountain equipment co-op makes some awesome bags that last forever. It's a canadian store, but I think they ship to the US.

I use a gigabyte computer daypack, which is super comfortable and has tons of pockets for power cords and ipods and digital cameras and all that stuff.

I'm a fan of Wenger backpacks. I picked up this backpack last year and have had no problems with it so far. It has lots of pockets for all my crap and it's padded along the part where you back is, so it's comfortable to carry for long periods of time.

Thanks for all the links guys. I linked her to the bags posted here because I didn't want to buy her something that wasn't to her liking, and she's settled for Timbuk2's Void Day Pack.

Now to scrounge up 70 dolllars!

Slick bag. I hadn't even noticed how much their line of bags has expanded lately. She should love it. I gave a Timbuk2 to a friend entering college a few years ago and she's been using it since.

Might also consider a Swiss Army laptop backpack. I know a lot of road warriors who swear by it. Great durability, functionality as well.

What about messenger bags? I can't seem to find any nice-looking, practical, affordable ones.

Timbuk2 bags too expensive? Mine is messenger style, and like I said, 5 years later not showing any wear. Primary bag through college and travel. They really should last as long as you'd need it, so it's not a bad investment.

Or something like this is practical and inexpensive. Or this. Tons of styles and options via Amazon. Although these are more like books and notepad sort of bags, you wouldn't want to put a laptop in there because they simply won't offer the protection. I have an Eddie Bauer travel tote I use as my manpurse for carrying around a book, iPod, hat, and so on.
