I got a Wii today and I can't get it to work. I hooked it up and it ask me to push A on the controller. I do that, hear a chime than it ask me to select a language. Problem is that nothing I do to the controller does anything when I get to this screen? Am I missing something? Once I reach the language screen the only button on the Wiimote that responds is the Power button. Am I doing something wrong or not doing something? Is my Wii already shot?

Uh, well, are you using the sensor bar?

Have you set the sensor bar up correctly? How big is your TV? If it's a small TV, try moving farther back until a hand appears on the screen.

In his defense I did that as well. Got a little excited when hooking it up and completely neglected the sensor bar. But it worked, as long as I was <2ft away from the tee vee.

    Whoooooops! Hi5

You can also use candles instead of the sensor bar. Not as effective, but works the same.
