I miss LAN parties. Those were good times. I got out of the scene just as small computers and LCD monitors were coming into the main stream, which would make LANs all the easier.
I used to pack a full sized tower and a 60lb 19" CRT. I had a modded case with 4 high airflow 120mm fans and that sucker sounded like a jet engine. It was a simpler time.
It's funny that you mention LAN parties. Apparently during the weekend when an old high school friend came to visit, thanks maybe to all the alcohol we drank, we're actually thinking about having an old ass LAN party. I don't even see me dragging my PC out of my room right now, much less my monitor. Even if it's lighter than the old ones.
Heh. I still haven't finished this week's ep but looks like GoW might not even crack Top 5 GOTY. I suppose I'm not surprised that Jeff didn't like it at all.
At least (unless there's a major surprise during E3); there doesn't seem to be a huge Jeff ass game. It's a bummer because I really like him going to bat for some game during GOTY.

He’ll be taking the bat to knock Red Dead lower, unless 1) Red Dead is bad or 2) he ends up loving Red Dead.
I think the odds of it being bad are higher than him coming to Jesus on Red Dead, and I think the odds of it being bad are pretty low.
So we’ll either get Ranty Jeff, who sees enough people wobbling on Red Dead to think he has a shot at shooting fire and changing their minds, or we’ll get Quiet Jeff, who thinks everyone is crazy for liking Red Dead, but doesn’t feel like he has an opening on it.
Or Red Dead is bad and he doesn’t need to convince anyone else.
It seems the didn't like GoW camp is currently Jeff, Alex and Abby (the ending really rubbed seems to rub her the wrong way). Brad seems interested but I think this will go BoTW and he will not beat it. Ben and Dan really love it. Vinny seems to acknowledge it has issues.
I wonder if RDR2 will be the game that finally ends that Rockstar streak. I loved the first one but man, Mexico almost made me drop that game.

Outside of RDR2 I feel like we are currently timetabling a pretty sparse release schedule for big-hype games, like there really isn't much to definitively look forward to for the next half of the year. Whereas last year we had an extreme excess of good shit to play by like, March
I suspect its kinda because the majority planned for 2018 are going to be announced during E3, but generally it's felt like a much quieter year overall compared to 2017
I'm sure he'll do great, but I don't care for covering a game that is not yet out, and whose legacy has not yet been written. This just feels like preview coverage an old gaming site would do.
I hope it's a bit of a feint and it's really more of a story about Fallout 4's troubled development.
Edit: Ah, it's a doc about all of Bethesda's titles, and just happens to be including their upcoming thing. That's way more interesting
So in the House Flipper Quicklook Dan legitimately and earnestly asks if he can buy eggs from the grocery store, bring them home and have his dog sit on them for a week, and end up with chickens.
The entire QL is a lens into Dan's mind. We don't deserve this man.

I really enjoy Dan, and your post made me beeline straight to the YouTube comments on this one. My favorite:
Did anyone else catch Brad letting it slip on UPF that Bethesda has something else to announce at E3? They tried to frame it as a "maybe" but the context of the conversation really made me think Brad tipped his hand a bit.

Did Dan really not know what a Union is and what they're good for?
Man it must be nice to blew off college and have everything fall neatly in your lap...
It seems to me that Dan determined at a very early age what he wanted to do for a living, figured out what it would take to get there, then went out and made it happen. I couldn’t possibly take that away from him.
You'll save yourself a lot of heartache by not dwelling too long on what Dan does and does not know.
This is the same guy who was born and raised in Kansas, loves BBQ, and has said "I love BBQ but i don't know what it is," went on to specify that BBQ is something that has BBQ sauce on it, but then also somehow knows how to sous vide.
i say this with nothing but affection, but his reality is not our reality.

Dude with a weird personality is in an industry based on personality; is successful.
Funny how that works out.
Eh, if that was what did it, there'd be a lot more successful people in that industry.
Well it's not like he just showed up on Giant Bomb's doorstep and said "look at how quirky I am!"
He was certainly lucky to be able to go to a college where he could both achieve his degree and work on furthering his career at the same time, and happened to be entering the industry at a time when it was much less crowded and focused on skills that Dan happened to posses, but he's also put some amount of effort into meetings his goals

Like, at first I was disappointed when Austin Walker left giantbomb. But now understand why he did it. We really need people who aren't afraid to talk about things that is more then 'sound/graphics/gameplay' in video games. Whenever Dan Ryker, which I think he takes prides in, wallows in ignorance and generally not caring about things reminds me why GG got as big as it did. Why people are harassed off the internet because 'they ruined the thing I like!'.
Dan Ryker is a guy I can relate to when I was a kid. But now it's the time to grow up.

This year is a little less crazy for game releases. (Not to mention everyone getting the fuck out of the way of Red Dead 2)
