Lots of demographic news in the last few weeks.

First the US has a below replacement fertility rate and had the biggest drop in years.



So uhhh less babies.

But teens are having fewer kids which is good.




Also there was a report from the Fed Reserve about the demographics of wealth in the US. Yeah it ain't good for folks.

The 1980s cohort is at greatest risk of becoming a “lost generation” for wealth accumulation. Wealth in 2016 of the median family headed by someone born in the 1980s remained 34 percent below the level we predicted based on the experience of earlier generations at the same age. The corresponding shortfalls of the 1960s cohort (–11 percent as of 2016) and the 1970s cohort (–18 percent) are worrying but are much smaller than their respective 2010 and 2013 shortfalls. Alone among the six decadal cohorts we studied, the typical 1980s family lost ground between 2010 and 2016, falling even further behind the typical wealth life cycle. This represents a missed opportunity because asset appreciation is unlikely to be as rapid in the near future as it was during the recent period. Two reasons for optimism are that the 1980s cohort has many years to get back on track and it is the most educated—hence, also potentially the highest-earning—group ever.

It was not the strongest scene in the show (honestly it is very forgettable), but it isn't what the show is about... except for the fact that lots of people are looking for meaning in this world, or running as far away from it as possible in order to forget.

Anecdotally, I've read that the waitlists for adopting newborns have skyrocketed lately. I would assume this is related, along with the increasing restrictions on international adoptions.

I know, but it was clearly a home audience gamble. And now it’s all but guaranteed nobody will watch it.

At least Fox has the cable sports bandwidth to actually cover the thing as opposed to the major broadcast networks

I think HBO handles sex on TV about as well as anyone else mainstream, which is to say fun to watch but not a valid reflection of reality at all.

I think HBO handles sex on TV about as well as anyone else mainstream, which is to say fun to watch but not a valid reflection of reality at all.

again I admit my definition of low fantasy is probably much more narrow than what it actually is but I think of low fantasy as pretty much looking like conan and majority being set in deserts or generally arid climates and everyone being shirtless and oiled 98% of the time and most of the castles being ruins
