Headset help?

SyzygySyzygy Registered User regular
Hey, maybe someone amongst the community here knows what sort of dunderheaded mistake I'm making this time. My old headset finally kicked the bucket when my dog knocked it off my desk and everything started sounding weak and reedy. I've bought (and returned) two new headsets today and am currently trying to make a third work, but for some reason my computer simply will not detect them when I plug them in. In ANY usb port. Which is weird because my mouse and keyboard and my old busted headset are all USB linked devices and my computer will detect them just fine. If I plug my old headset in it shows up on my audio devices immediately and will begin working. None of the new headsets worked (and the new one refuses to work) I know it's not my PC because all my other USB devices are operable and detectable. The latest headset has a set of color changing LED lights in them too and THOSE are lighting up so I KNOW it's getting power and communicating with my PC.

I'm at my wits end right now, I don't understand why my PC will detect anything I plug in to it EXCEPT my headphones. And yes, I have enabled "Show disabled devices" and show disconnected devices" on my sound device manager and nothing shows up.

Does anyone know what's wrong, or, better yet, how I might fix this?

Is it possible that the headsets require USB 3 and you're plugging them into an older model port?
Do you have links to what headsets you've tried?
You my also want to visit the manufacturers website and see if they have any available drivers for the headsets that you can try downloading.

    1. Check playback devices. Plug in new headphones. Right-click playback devices. Set your USB headphones as default.
    2. Update USB driver.
    3. Update audiodriver.
    4. Run the Hardware&devices troubleshooter.
    5. Try step 1 again.

Did any of these things work?

Yeah, the most recent ones I'm trying are a Hephaestus E1 series headset. I couldn't find any drivers for that particular headset from the manufacturer.

I can't get past step 1 because my playback devices list does not populate itself with the new headset, there's nothing for me to click on to set as a default device.

If step one can't be done, continue to step 2, and 3 and so on.
Most likely your USB drivers are not up to date.

You can also try to suspend the Automatic USB powerdown (so that USBs recieve power even if the computer doesn't detect anything). Search->Power plan->Advanced power settings->USB->Deactivate. This can help when you're troubleshooting.
