I've only gone to the light globe level twice since release and when I had time to think I noticed there was never a gap between gloves that was so long I had to take damage when moving from one to another
But when fighting shit it felt like each orb was miles and miles away
Each time I went in I probably spent like a half hour moving slow as hell
From what I read, the optimal build Brutality / Tactics / Survival in the context of how much health you can get and how much damage enemies will deal to you is 8 / 7 / 13, which favors investing in Survival items (or just colorless ones).
The real problem is with final boss - he has built in damage reduction, meaning that no matter how much damage you can deal, you will only take 5 % of his health bar at most, while his own damage and health pool grows with each scroll taken, so taking too much of them is acutally punishing to the player, if you plan to defeat him.
See the problem with this is most Survival items suck
On the other hand, War Spear is fucking awesome, so if you have this unlocked, your life immediately gets easer.
Hunter's Bow and this one slow crossbow are also pretty good.

I like that the crappy starter bow and sword are available under your spawn platform so you can go grab one of them if the random items you're given blow chunks
Yeah I basically always end with a 1 or 2 in survival.
Survival gives you so much health though!
don't get hit!
Alternatively get a ton of health and damage reduction and don’t care about getting hit.

Colorless items throw a weird wrench into the stat itemization, and at some point stats are likely only fueling mutations

I'm starting to think that I don't actually like what Legendaries do for the game. You lock into a configuration way too early, making late game treasure chests basically meaningless because nothing is gonna match your lvl III Legendary.
On the other hand, this is a pretty sweet sword...
So, any tips for how to beat HotK? I've only fought him like 5 times, but I'm having trouble with the optimal strategy for killing the elite summoning, dealing with the bombs, and when he drops the countdown flags (what do they even do?)

I have yet to beat him, but I've gotten him to 10%ish for the past several runs. I find using skills that will do damage without needing me to focus on them like turrets does wonders for the elite waves because then I can focus on dodging and blocking. Not so much on the boss because he's extra resistant to skill damage, but every bit helps.
The bombs can easily be parried or you can wait till just before the first set explodes to roll away, which will dodge all (or just go dodge crazy).
The flags have very low hp and after 6 seconds blow up in a large area doing high amounts of damage. Again those skills that do continuous damage will take those out.
So you like a shield build with shooty traps for him?
I've never carried a shield all the way there, because I feel like I would get murdered the first time I encountered 3 guys on a platform in high peak castle.

I just finally got some of the mutations that I feel like make shields worthwhile
Got the one that gives bonus damage when you party or reflect attacks, which feels mandatory if you really want to focus on them
Need to beat Conjunctivitis again for the other good green mutation, but also I feel like mutations are the weakest link in a survival build

Something people might not be aware of is that carrying a shield has a passive effect of granting 0.5 seconds in invulnerability every time you get hit. My successful builds generally involve 60% or more damage reduction (amulet, many shields, many grenades/skills) and some kind of damage multiplier. An ideal set up would be a fast attacking melee weapon with +100% to burning enemies, a DR shield and a Fire Grenade, plus some utility.
The mutations I pick are usually YOLO, Disengagement (or Fireworks Technician) and Vengeance (or some other damage booster). I've managed to beat Hard, in a pretty nailbiting fight where I had no potions and had to pop both of my Vampirisms, but I think that's as far as my abilities can take me.
I was not aware of that invulnerability. That's huge, for high peak castle where everyone can ping pong you around. Maybe I'll try another shield build tonight if I get the chance.

I had issues of having to spend too much money to get it (so I didn't have money to reroll my main weapons), then not having a second utility item during my run, and then repeatedly running into enemies where it didn't work on them.
do certain blueprints only drop from certain enemies? I’ve been pumping everything I can into the forge for the most part, but runs are starting to feel a little stale. Figure I should move my focus to getting blueprints and unlocking new stuff
Good example of a no effort build:
Just stand there and hammer melee, drink a potion when Disengage triggers, drink another after YOLO. Suits sloppy play but won't unlock the harder difficulties.
Man oh fuckin man is the hunters grenade fuckin aggravating
In what way? I really love that thing. New stuff!
Oh I like new stuff I just don't like finagling the health and then having to use the goddamn extractor thing whilst getting pelted by turdly summoned zombies
Note to self: even if you’re just dumping cells into the forge, you should still stop and actually unlock the blueprints you’ve collected, you idiot. You absolute dunce

I spend my cells on blueprints, but spend my boss cells on the legendary forge.
I haven't been unlocking the mutations because I just use YOLO, grenade recharge and trap recharge every time
Im playing on 3 Cells difficulty (no health fountains between levels AT ALL), I got to the final boss 4 times I think, and lost every single time. This run I had 12k health, - 75 % damage reduction, Ice Bow and Legendary Broadsword dealing 9k dmg per hit. Still got rekt.
I was doing the first part but I think in the chaos I didn't realize about the second object realizing. I thought I had to unlock that retrieval item the description mentioned separately.

Bring something to freeze the elite, or maybe a good parry shield, because it takes forever to use that second item.

Finally started making it to the Hand, but now I want to pivot to getting the other runes. All I have is vine and the teleport, where should I be heading next? I scoured the low light area but couldn't reach anything new.

I made this same mistake for a while, it feels real obvious when you see where the game wants you to go
Check out the teleport point near the end elevator in the Promenade and have "fun" from there
The flying batworm things can also be hunters grenaded, it turns them into an elite zombie for some reason

Beat the hand, finally. Key was having a bunch of damage reduction items (including a -40% vampirism). Took the tough as nails mutation too, but not sure how much it really helped.

Toss traps at those guys and stand away.
This is very good advice, additionally I would reccomend succeeding rather than failing

finally completed my first run
nice
In what way? I really love that thing. New stuff!
Its right at the beginning so the worst thing that happens is I lose 3 minutes
i dont really think its worth it for most stuff/anything but the hunter grenade really

Im afraid that this is as far as I can go.
so you throw it at an enemy whi h turns it into an elite and drops a new item you have to pick up
then get the elite to 40 percent health
then use the item. you have to hold the button for a while, its like a ghostbusters beam

Pretty much anything that doesn't have its own elite version will turn into a zombie
Like for example you can use the hunter grenade on the decoys
