I'm a little confused here: Is The Dark Pictures Anthology just franchise branding, and Man of Medan is going to be a full-length game?
Or is this an episodic structure where Man of Medan is like 90-120 minutes long and then six months later we get another one of similar length? More like a collection of horror television than a collection of horror films.

Franchise branding, and Man of Medan will be the first entry and will be a full-length game so far as I can tell. Until Dawn was around 7-8 hours the first playthrough, I believe.

Good news! I played and liked the Shadow of War demo!
Bad News! It's lowest settings seem to cap out what my current computer is capable of. I suppose it was bound to happen, this thing is nearing 5 years old, but that really doesn't feel like such a long time. I'm still not used to the advances in tech . . .

You ever think about how differently Luftrausers would be received if it was released today?
Vlambeer's plane shooter? If you're referring to the resurgence of Nazis in the modern day, IIRC at the time there was already a controversy at the time of release because you are basically playing the Nazis in that game.

Yeah, I remember there being a relatively cordial exchange about it on twitter between the dev and someone with criticisms.
Regarding the Humble Bundle: Detention is quite good. More people should check that out. It's a fairly linear adventure game, but it does the spookiness well and also tells a rather good story about a specific period of time in Taiwan.
Looking forward to the next game from the same studio.

There's lots of games where you play as the luftwaffe and they haven't encountered media controversy to date, war thunder a popular recent example. was there something specific about the game that would have been controversial?

Not sure what is happening. Plenty of war games exist where you play as the Germans.

Whatever other features VtM:B may have, it certainly does not have good combat. Sort of mediocre skill use too, or more specifically a poor way of communicating what you need, have, and the goal behind the usage of said skills.
Thus far the story is . . . okay? I just got some homemade explosive from some dudes in a house on the beach, so I doubt I'm quite into anything that would be truly earth-shaking.
Unreal is as standard as I remember it thus far, but I'm only at stage 3 or 4 out of, like, 20?
Not sure how far I'll get in either one.

Speaking as someone who is highly biased, I would recommend giving Vampire some time to flesh itself out. I won't argue with you on the fact that the game is jank on multiple levels of the jank scale.
If it is agony for you, go ahead and put the game down. But if your are the type (like me) that will grin and bear shitty mechanics for story, the game will deliver over time.

Honestly, I've found that I've got to have at least passable mechanics. Like, for me, good mechanics will excuse a paper-thin story. I want story, don't get me wrong. It's a matter of if it's fun to get there.
That said, VTMB isn't dead just yet. I think I'll try and finish a few other tasks and see how I feel. Currently, it feels most like "Strength vamp power + melee attacks" are the only hope of winning. I was . . . sort of hoping for cool vampire blood powers, and this feels more about the intricacies of the vamp cliques rather than cool but outlandish powers. But again, It gets a bit more time.

So many cool vamp powers! And so many ways to win. You definitely don't need to go strength+melee.

Do I get any other powers other than what I start with? I feel like they're pretty stingy with the experience points.

War games and flight sims tend to be very dry and historical. A ww2 flight sim where you can fly missions on the German side is very different than an Ace Combat game where you played as the Germans in ww2 would be.

Yeah, each clan only has access to certain powers (disciplines) but everyone gets blood buff when they need an extra oomf.
Obsfucate felt hilariously overpowered for getting stealth kills on everything except bosses but is restricted to characters I would save for another playthrough (Nosferatu/Malkavian).
Tremere are probably the most overpowered with Thaumaturgy though and have some of their own unique stuff though it keeps them out of the standard haven upgrade.

Make sure to pay attention to the Melee and Firearms feat requirements (that is strength + melee or firearms + whatever stat it uses in the game) as they aren't kidding about losing effectiveness when below that level. Mind you Blood Buff sets your strength at 5 so that can put you over the threshold needed on a lot of melee weapons and you'll often want to run that buff in any fight due to the stamina bonus to help you absorb damage from most attacks and the strength bonus adding to damage rolls.
That said, a lot of melee weapons have janky hitboxes. Just fighting unarmed with Blood Buff running will be more effective than weapons you can get until the Fire Axe or thereabouts. It's easier to hit things with punches than the short ranged melee weapons like tire irons and knives and there's a good chance for a punch with that strength to knock a target down. By the time the axe becomes available though you'll be starting to fight more non-human enemies and armored humans that can take punches and need the higher lethality from weapons to bypass armor and resistances.
Unless you're playing a Tremere and possibly even then at some point you'll want to put points into firearms related stats but that can wait until you find guns worth using.
Is anyone here playing Shenmue on an older GPU? I have a venerable HD 7850 and I'm wondering how well the port is going to run.
I'm running it on a 1080, granted, but based on the low speed my fans are spinning even with it at 1440p and the mere trickle of warmth coming out of my laptop, I'd guess that you'd be fine.
You can take the game all the way down to its original 640x480 if you want - in fact it initially booted at that resolution for me - and due to limitations in the original code it's locked at 30fps regardless. It has resolution scaling as well (and supersampling at the other end of the scale), and generally seems well optimized and undemanding.

It does sound like they've put the work into the game and improved it from that apparent original shitshow release.

Do not engage the Watermelons.
That said, being a dick, like those guys that made a twitter death threat against Gabe Newell, negates that difference.
