I'm kind of hoping I can find a roomshare before I book my own room, since that'd really cut costs, but if I don't have anything lined up by end of September I'll just have to line one up myself and see if someone wants to split it. Though apparently the Springhill through the PA site is only single beds? Don't know the area well enough to figure out if it's the same Springhill that everyone else will be near though.

I booked my room at the Fairfield which is literally right next to the Springhill that a bunch of us stayed at and used as a meeting place last year. Rooms are around $50 cheaper than the Springhill, and when I booked mine they still had queen/queen rooms available.
Is that the one on 422 Bonham Street, going by Google Maps? Lists it as the one for the Convention Center, but the map has another one in close proximity.

Sure is! And that's the SpringHill just beneath it. I always remember the right one, because it's on Bowie St. It's impossible for me to forget that street name.
Great, soon as the PA site stop borking up I'll check the rates on that. I looked through the external but they also wanted up-front payment even with the no refund option. So it's PA site or nothing.

It's the more expensive, free cancellation bookings that don't charge immediately
The PA site is absolutely the best option currently though
Looking through the PA site and looks like both that Springfield and Fairfield aren't listed, buuuut I found one called Red Roof Inn Plus Downtown that's listed at $107.99 per night and there's no price difference between a one bed or two bed room, so $504.31 for four nights, from Thursday to Monday, including taxes and fees. Only 0.4 miles from the convention center too.
While I would have liked to be part of the crowd, I think I have to pull the trigger on this one because oh wow that's a lot of money saved. Especially if someone does want to roomshare. And besides, I can always join y'all over in the Springfield, it's not that far of a walk. Maybe a couple extra minutes than it was for Days Inn.

It's honestly not that bad, I've stayed further away from the main group than that before and it's only a mild inconvenience at the end of the night

Pretty much yeah. And I'll take mild inconvenience when it's saving me minimum of $50 a night. So I have that booked now if anyone wants to roomshare with me there.

Priceline usually has some hotel deals that don't charge right away, I think. Also, booking from a hotel directly after you find a decent price would probably let you do that.

whether I can come or not, I'm going to be preparing my body, mind, and soul for this confrontation for the next four months regardless
So, I may have purchased some tickets for this here PAX South thing (renting a house with some other folks) and am using it as an excuse to also visit my girlfriend in Houston earlier in the week before we road trip over for the con. Guess I’ll be seeing you nerds there.
If anybody wants me to run gauntlet dungeons for them, now’s the time to start booking.

There are 3 PAXes on the horizon from now till January 20th, the first being PAX Aus as the end of October.
PAX South is roughly 111 days away.
And I just got my Southwest LUV Vouchers extended by 6 months so I can use them for my flights, cutting the cost of flying to PAX this year by more than half.
Just have to wait for the emails to come, buy my flight, pay Maddoc for my half of the hotel, and I am all set for PAX South.
If anyone is looking to roomshare I still have a 2 bed hotel room that's easy walking distance from the convention and Springhill. It'd be about $216 for four nights, from Thursday to Monday

Flight secured. Had to buy both of the flights one way because of the LUV vouchers but it still came out to under $120 because of those vouchers. Here's hoping there are minor equipment/crew delays this January because I could get used to that price.

If you go to outside booking, apparently a lot of hotel booking sites have started charging immediately for the cheaper booking options
Good to know it won't all go through at once.
That said, it's not Onpeak so I'm not 100% sure either, but they also usually only charge one day as a deposit
