Is Sinister Gladiator's Maledict good for PvE? It's an option for this week's conquest and while I'm certain of its value for PvP, I'm not sure it's effects would work on mobs or bosses. I can't seem to find an answer elsewhere on this that doesn't just focus on the PvP value.

You can often find the pvp trinkets on various sites that compare trinket values. The answer is generally if its ilvl is high enough, then go for it.

Maledict is not good for pve because the stat weight of the healing absorb is useless it still might be worth it, but probably not

Its a amazing pvp trinket though, ok almost required pvp trinket

Is anyone interested in doing a +6 SotS today? I realize this is probably beneath most of you at this point. If not that's fine, I'll keep pugging it.

i bet if javen wasn't a DH (and therefore a much slower class) we woulda failed

or if i hadn't used that war scroll of intellect

or if shirls had dispelled the final boss buff sooner

    or etc. etc.

3 seconds is so close yikes

The close timer can largely be blamed on my planning and one spur-of-the-moment decision.

First time waster was the backtrack to kill some droplets, as we didn't want to trigger reaping in the middle of the carver pull. Those droplets were part of my original route and I should have pulled them when we first ran past.

The second was the patrolling deep smash guy after the second boss. He got super bolstered while blinded, when I should have either tried to move further away or gotten angry to vanish->sap instead (sap keeps the mob out of combat and bolsters don't stick).

The third was the last reaping we triggered, as we had to sit around twiddling our thumbs waiting for the ghosts to hoof it across the bridge. That probably could have been avoided by killing another bunch of droplets and a pack I left behind before the second boss.

Regardless, everything else was executed pretty much flawlessly. Zay's mind sear pulls on the minibosses, everybody interrupting when prompted to, and one Shirls death from trying to minmax too hard.

I'm thinking for non-fortified reaping packs in the future, it might be okay to leave a few alive before pulling more regular trash, and just letting them die from general aoe

Kill the lost souls obviously, and probably the tormented ones too, but the risen souls I think? can probably just be killed while we're killing other stuff.

That works great for areas like the trash around the UR second boss (exclusively risen), but most of the time risen souls just fall over, leaving behind the beefy lost souls and the staggered tormented souls that didn't get caught in the scrum. There are probably plenty of harmless trash packs that can be pulled into that though.

  • JavenJaven Registered User regular
On the one hand, leaving the lost souls alive is probably faster, since the only thing they do is avoidable aoe ground attacks

on the other hand, I hate them

I've been watching a fair bit of high m+ tanks stream their runs and there's a decent amount of pulling Reapers onto the next pack. One notable one is in Underrot, pulling the final wave downstairs into the final arena and pulling the Abomination into the pack.

  • Blackbeard7Blackbeard7 Registered User regular
    that makes sense honestly

if you're gonna pop cooldowns and cleave like crazy why stop pulling

The main thing would be to only do it when the next pull is safe. You wouldn't want an important interrupt to get missed in the Lost Soul Shuffle.

Another combo pull I've seen is on the wave that triggers before Galvazzt. Trigger it on half of the sparks, and then pull the second half of the sparks into the reaping wave so you can fight away from the stairs.

Speaking of interrupts, I wish Counterspell wasn't castable when something's already been countered. I get fucked on that a lot and then everyone's mad I didn't interrupt anything for the next 24 seconds.

I use this weakaura to track everyone's interrupts and inform my callouts. I usually don't care on trash but on the second boss of Shrine, for example, it's essential (unless I get a massive chain of grand crusader procs and just end up saying I have this interrupt, and this one, and this one, and this one....... :rotate: ).

Which would be fine if people understood that, but they uh, they don't. Plus I don't know this for sure but I feel like 24 seconds is a bit longer than the CD other classes get, especially tanks.

Like, I had 2 successful interrupts in a boss fight that lasted 1:30, and I got called out for it.

The alternative is the dispel paradigm, where the ability doesn't go on cooldown if it doesn't do anything, buuuut it's on the GCD and it has a significant resource cost.

Personally, I think interrupts are okay as-is.

have they ever done a raid mechanic that's just "have the entire raid staggering interrupts in an organized fashion the whole fight or you lose"

    wasnt that oregorger

Or at least a large component of oregorger

EDIT: in more recent history, the "bug" in BoD on mythic jaina involved constantly interrupting the water ele as it tried to cast whatever it was, because that ability has a higher priority than the dangerous one. So constant interrupts in the final phase were needed to win.

Shade of Aran in original Kara was basically like that. He had spells from 3 schools and if you locked out all 3 at once for any significant portion of time the incoming raid damage dropped a lot. Given, this was Kara, so none of the fights were "hard" or anything!

Yeah Aran was probably the most interrupt-happy, in that he was always casting no matter what. But the individual spells weren’t very dangerous. Thereve been a lot of ‘spam interrupts’ and a lot of ‘interrupt or die’ but never both at the same time I think.

  • AdusAdus Registered User regular

socrethar from HFC required pretty much perfect interrupts, at least on mythic.

Oh yeah we had to use angry assignments for him AND that other fight, killrog? The adds needed constant interrupting IIRC.

  • Munkus BeaverMunkus Beaver Registered User, ClubPA regular
From vanilla through wrath they used the "you gotta interrupt a lot or ya die lawl" mechanics. A lot.

So basically when their boss design was at their worst (excluding razorgore, which still isn't a great fight unless you are one of 3 people)

be like me, vanilla UI but then find little nagging annoyances like difficulty tracking certain important buffs or cooldowns that would be improved by little changes and oh there's an addon for that, or it's a display thing you can do in weakauras, better find or make a weakaura for that, and then eventually you build up a custom UI out of those little customizations.
