I've always considered the plots in COD games as some of the worst written out there, to be honest. There's some good action and character moments sometimes, but it's all held together with either flimsy premises or plot threads that make no sense. (Seriously, what even was going on in Black Ops 3?) Combined with characters who have no charisma or defining qualities, and its impossible to give a damn about what's going on. I know most people consider single player COD as just a training mode for the multiplayer, but for what we're paying, we should at least get something engaging and entertaining beyond just shooting things.
The 'plot' in Black Ops 4, or at least whatever plot is suggested in the cutscenes you get when you complete each specialist's training level, is even more baffling. Is the trillionaire lady meant to be good or evil? What exactly is she trying to change? What were those guys with the mohawks even doing, why should I care? Who the hell is Alex Mason? Were the developers working on a story mode before they were told to chuck it to work on the battle royale mode? Are they setting up for a sequel, is that why there's no ending?
It just feels like such a waste of talent and effort.

I don’t know if I even remember any CoD or MW single player campaigns. I remember parts but it’s not like something that felt impactful for me. The last war FPS that did that for me would probably be Medal of Honor.
I was bummed to find out about CoD finally ditching the campaign, but BLOPS 4's MP and Battle Royale mode are superb, so it softens the blow. Also BLOPS 3's campaign was so terrible that I don't mind them not continuing whatever that confusing mess was. It is going to suck if the trend continues for all CoD games, especially if the rumor is true that Infinity Ward's entry is going to be Modern Warfare 4. Even the "bad" CoDs like Ghosts and Infinite Warfare had awesome campaigns, and I always looked forward to them.

I just liked playing whatever form of splitscreen co-op they had with my brother in law. Who cares about the story? Though we haven't really been able to do that since... MW3? Ghosts didn't really have any as far as we could tell, and then the first nephew became old enough to notice what's going on on the tv screen. Now they're both still young enough they shouldn't be playing.

Now all we need is Mr. Period to come back.
Think that's about once a month, so probably soon.
You're thinking of his sister
"Why would I be thinking of degenerate remnants of things that were once more relevant and functional?"

But I guess you can't monetize that like multiplayer.
COD2 and MW1 campaigns were reallllllllll good.
