Ahava was doing imp work in the Secret Satans thread and asked what people's preferences about art were. I like art! I have lots of it around my place. When I first moved to Singapore, it was tough to feel like I really lived here until my boxes arrived and I could decorate. The way you arrange the space you live in, what you decorate with and where it came from, says a lot about you and your history and interests. It also transforms a room, apartment, or house from just
a space into a space that belongs to you. So, what do you have around your space that you love?
I tend to make little tableaus in corners and nooks of my apartment - little spots that make me happy.
A vintage Chinese enamel plate made on June 3rd 1970, dedicated to the memory of
Norman Bethune, a Canadian doctor and Communist. It says something to the effect of "Henry Norman Bethune, ultra devotion to others without self interest [something like altruistic]." Annnd a piece of fossilized coral from Uluwatu, a metal bird from a thrift shop in Virginia, a bottle of (not particularly good) jenever from Belgium, my xenomorph matchbook and a book devoted to feminism and cocktails.
My manhattan pitcher from Potts Pottery in Seagrove, North Carolina (my grandparents have made their manhattans in a matching one with a different glaze for like twenty years), another pitcher from Studio Forme in Trastevere in Rome, a wood cheese platter from a market in Heidelberg.
Part of my bookshelves with my Calavera Catrina from Mérida in the Yucatan (and her broken hands in my shell and fossil collection - don't transport super delicate clay, guys - I'll patch her with two-part epoxy eventually), a cup from a ceramics maker in China that I can't remember anymore, a ball bearing I found on the street in Shanghai, a fossil shark tooth from Topsail Island, my Korean letter blocks, my "positivity" voodoo doll and my dammit doll.
Whatcha got on your walls and shelves, guys? How do you fill your space with the stuff you love? I'll share more of my weird crap but let's see yours, first!

Also today we went to a student art sale at a local art university and bought a couple of prints which now need framing, including a super rad lithograph of Octavia Butler with her quote "There is nothing new under the sun; but there are new suns" we're gonna hang in our son's room (his middle name is Butler in her honor)
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
i can explain more about any little thing you see popping out
you'll see a lot of one of the kind art from a pal who passed away from a stroke a couple years back, and just so many jokers
this is just a fraction of the very dumb stuff i surround myself in
I love that you have a dammit doll, @Lost Salient
Moriveth and I have pretty much nothing but nerdy shit up on our walls. We have a lot of interests between us. Here’s some of it:
First, there are a lot of nature things I like. Some things I like especially are: hummingbirds, bats, corvids, jellyfish and butterflies. Halloween was a great time to acquire some bat decorations and you bet I am keeping them as a feature year-round. Also, this includes a hummingbird painting by a Chinese artist now living in San Francisco; I picked it up at a local crafts fair when in the Bay Area.
The othe hummingbird is pretty galvanized metal; here is a better look:
Continuing the bird theme is this painting I did with Anya when she was a year old (she drew the lines and it kind of resembled a bird so I filled it in and tried to preserve her original lines in the process):
I love Star Wars (obv) and Kate Beaton. This middle print was a secret satan gift from a very great forumer. The Hark a Vagrant prints were a birthday present from @Moriveth one year:
Here’s one of Mori’s own birthday gifts! I gifted him this Monster Hunter print which his mom thought was a flower, haha.
Upstairs in my bedroom I have my Fire Emblem fan art prints & charms in three different spots, because there wasn’t contiguous wall space:
I forgot to upload the third but it includes a print of a jellyfish given by another very generous secret satan!
Also, some of the kids’ art is my fave!
Here’s some art Niko did as a baby:
And Anya created this bat when I was being slow putting up Halloween decorations:
We have a gift from a third forumer! @DE?AD created this for our Christmas one year!
(Sorry, just noticed it cropped weirdly when I was trying to resize it in the frame app)
Lastly, I bought Skelly for Halloween and the kids loved him so much that he’s a permanent fixture in our living room:
AJ that Dazzler is my favourite.

I don't get to nerd out the whole house like I'd really want to buy I have my areas
