I am trying to follow this recipe:

Everything was fine until it said hit the pressure cooker button (I did), choose three minutes (I did - I changed the display to 00:03 and let it switch to "on"), and then nothing happened for fifteen minutes.

It says cook time is 3 minutes and even after waiting until it built pressure, it just ended up behind really liquid-y.

    Probably solved by now, but for others....

    1 - Make sure your valve isn't set to Release.
    2- It takes time to build pressure - a lot of IP recipes don't mention or include that. So the 3 minutes is just the time it will be at full pressure. Before that, there's the time to get to pressure, then after, there's the time to release it. That can be done either by Quick Release where you flip the valve to let it out quickly, or Natural Release, where you let it sit until the stopper drops down and you can open the pot. Most recipes will use a combination of both.

    If it's mostly meat, I think you usually only want to do Natural.

    For that recipe, that's probably too much water. I'd do like 1.5C of broth. May take longer to come to pressure, though.

    Got it. Yeah, I feel dumb that I didn't suss that out.

    So the three minutes I set, does that mean it'll stop pressurizing after three minutes at max? Not sure what setting the timer does.

    Yup. It's still cooking in there, but the IP isn't maintaining the pressure.

    The Keep Warm just keeps the heating element going, not the pressure. But if doing a long natural release, you'll want to turn that off.

    That's why in theory it also has those Rice, Soup, etc. buttons; it's using "fuzzy logic" to adjust the pressure for the different types of food. But you can usually just ignore those and set it to High or Low.

    I made bread the other day, and it took 10+ mins to get to pressure, cooked for 25, then took two hours for natural release; and it still wasn't quite done.
