I feel Marx was way too optimistic about how capitalism functions.
If I remember correctly, Marx was a true believer in the high productive efficiency of capitalism and that tied into how he though socialism and communism would happen. I think if you ask the average modern leftist about whether capitalism had a high productive efficiency, there is a very good chance they would disagree.

I think I've told this story before, but my great grandfather moved to Mexico without telling anyone. Just decided "screw this family" and left.

I don't claim to be expert on Marx by a long shot, but his description of capital as having given rise to efficiencies in terms of eg economies of scale is not in conflict with contemporary left thought even among the Extremely Online set; the crux is that the efficiency isn't tracked with human need in any way but with profit. Hence why it makes sense to pump water out of an aquifer in Fiji, put it in plastic bottles made in China, and ship it across the ocean to consumers in the US.

For anyone following the saga of Yodie and her kidney disease, she gets fluids injected and has to take antidepressants to help with nausea and her appetite, and it has been helping her! She has gained some weight back, she seems happy again, and doesn’t act like a dying animal!
