dump someone in a garbage bin, stick someone's head in a deep fryer, jam their hand down a meat grinder or garbage disposal, throw kitchen knives, slide them down a long countertop, bang them through a bunch of hanging pots and pans, the possibilities are truly endless
The most boring kitchen fight ever is in Spy. Jut on person repeatedly trying to stab someone exactly the same way getting repeatedly blocked by a pan. The worst fightscene I can remember from the top of my head.
I should watch raid 2 again, I honestly haven't since seeing it in theaters
I've probably watched the raid like... every six months since it came out, it feels like. it just ends up happening and it turns out I can watch that movie at any moment. I feel like I'm generally in the minority in actually really liking the characters and storytelling in the raid, it's so purposefully minimalist but still extremely evocative to me.
I also love the final fight but totally agree the first mad dog fight is way better. the captain is the best part of that movie, and that fight is a really stunning piece of action movie storytelling

One of the great bits of storytelling in the kitchen fight
It becomes pretty clear early on that The Assassin is outmatched by Rama, but it's also clear that he's still extremely dangerous and the fight could turn at any moment. The story of the fight is really coherent and the tension of "is Rama going to stay on top" is there throughout, but the final victory is set up as making sense as soon as the tide turns Rama's way. There's also the fact that The Assassin only needs to win this fight, and Rama needs to win this one and whatever the next one is, so as he becomes more injured the chances of his overall victory become slimmer.

The Raid is really great and I love it! I just have that issue with the last fight, that's all. It's a pretty cool fight scene itself, just way too long. If it finished when the boys stab the broken flourescent tube into Mad Dogs neck, that would make more sense (they figured out that trying to fight him individually but simultaneously ensured they got the stuffing beaten out of them, teaming up and fighting him together is what allowed them to defeat him) because it's very much a lethal thing to do to a human being no matter how amazing they are at kicking ass, and significantly shortens the scene.

I love the pacing and story of that fight.
Evolving from a bit of sparring to a toe-to-toe fight to a desperate struggle to two wolves feverishly tearing at each other's throats. It's 6 straight minutes of bonkers action.
I swear Fringe was on Netflix long ago, back before anyone told me it was good
It's been awhile but yeah it used to be there. I miss it so much.
I've actually only ever seen 1 or 2 episodes. But I bought the full Blu Ray set years ago. I should crack it open some day.
I also have the full set of BSG. Should watch that too.

Its one of those series that takes a bit to get the wheels turning. But once it does and the actual larger story of the show comes into focus it is really strong.
When The Raid came out, it had been a while since I’d seen a truly great action movie. Or even one that really took its action seriously. The majority of US action films have embarrassingly bad action choreography/direction, and it had been a while since we’d seen any big cross over success from Asia, like Ong Bak.
I feel like in the years since we’ve seen a a lot of excellent action films popping up around the globe (John Wick!), but it’s hard to overstate how much of a breath of fresh air The Raid was in 2011.

it doesn't get good until like halfway through season 1, imo

I bought, I think, Raid and Raid II off iTunes a long time ago. I guess I should watch them.
I just realised that the upcoming Mads Mikkelsen films “Polar” and “Arctic”, both releasing within a week of each other, are in fact not the same film and I am in fact not going crazy.

My favorite part about that Batman v. Superman fight is that, against a godlike being from beyond the stars, Bruce Wayne quickly reverts to prison rules.

I'm kind of baffled that anyone didn't hear Fringe was great when it was airing
I think it got killed by starting slow. The show takes a little while to get its wheels spinning and I wonder if it lost viewership before it got a chance to shine.

Not on Prime, Netflix, or Hulu at least.
yeah but you can't use a blender to kill someone in there
Yeah but in which location have you seen a man reload his fists like they were shotguns
that's right, a bathroom
I just watched the drug kitchen fight in the raid and it was real fun

that was a neat little movie
cool fights, efficient storytelling
and it only did my fighting movie pet peeve once that I could see
It's been awhile but yeah it used to be there. I miss it so much.
and that is just raunchy
What's your fighting movie pet peeve?

Batman agrees.
when a mook tries to hit the main guy but he blocks it, and then the mook just stands there waiting for the main guy to break his face or whatever

Break all my bones and stab me full of holes, but good lord don’t hit me with those peepoops.
This was one of the like, 4 things I liked in this movie?
It's definitely the only good thing that happens in that fight scene

That reminds me
Mission Impossible: Fallout had a really good bathroom fight
And not just because it involved Henry Cavill cocking his fists like shotguns
Sheila O’Malley is great and everyone should read her work.
