Ogre Battle is my favorite game series of all time. Let's talk about it.
Also this poll is dumb and I didn't mean to make the thread like this soooooo I'll update the OP in a second.
Behold the true hero of Ogre Battle: Canopus Motherfucking Wolph
Let's talk about Ogre battle! You have four games:
March of the Black Queen
Person of Lordly Caliber
Let us Cling Together
Knight of Lodis
With the latter two being Tactics Ogre entries (this series basically invented the Tactics style of games).
The story is ridiculously complex, the setting is expansive, and the history is nuts.
This is Lanselot Tartaros. Aka
The PC of Knight of Lodis
And the villain of Let Us Cling together. He's pretty interesting! His cronies are just doofuses but Lanselot manages to be an interesting, compelling villain that isn't straight up evil.
Tactics Ogre also throws you for a loop by having the "law" route be straight up fuckin evil (you cop, you) and the "chaos" route be the more traditional good guy route.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

We can still talk about the stories in the game! And which paths are cool to take and why!
shit is fucking HARD
but it's still one of my top strategy games of all time
also shoutouts to the realest ones out there calais the ninja and swift the hawkman, my quest mode recruits who became the heart and soul of my squad
Person of Lordly Caliber has a lot of Ogres.
???
Knight of Lodis? Use the snapdragon spell on one of your strongest units. Shit is Bananas.
Then when you beat the game, you can cheese a New Game by using the in battle save at the final battle. Start a new game, save it. Then go to the final battle and kill the boss. Start the game with one of the best weapons in the game!
oh don't worry I bet they'll make final fantasy tactics advance 3 someday :rotate:
That was when I became aware he really really cared about me

This has bothered me for far too long. Why would anyone take the risky route when the alternative is so easy and safe?

As a king wishing to rule the world, what personality trait do you feel you most lack?
It is difficult to rule those with ideas different from your own. What do you yourself look most for in a leader?
It is sometimes said that victory is only luck. What do you think luck is?
Because of a mistake you made, your army is forced to retreat. What do you do?
A messenger from the gods has appeared before you. What does this messenger look like?
The night before a battle you see several falling stars heading for the east. What do you wish for?
The night before a battle, you drink a parting toast with your comrades. How full is your glass?

Chaotic Good. Low alignment, high intelligence. You control the power of Phantoms and Poison and have a wizard friend. You have recruited a number of Gryphons, Clerics, and Valkrie to aid you on your quest. A giant Octopus tags along. Your preferred weapon is Notos, the sword of the east wind god. In Lake Jannenia, you chose to fight Sirius when the Sun was up because fuck that guy.
Neutral Evil. You control the aspect of Thunder and cautiously swing your weapon twice in battle. You hang out with a Beastman that gave you the heads up on how to get Gilbald (aka Gilbert) O'brien to join your army. Your preferred weapon is Glamdring, the sword of a firedrake that was forged by an Elven master. Your army of berserkers, enchanters, and Iron golems refused to surrender an inch of ground to the Lodis Empire.
yeah, that all sounds pretty accurate

That would be '39.
Magic Online - Bertro
Chaotic Evil. Summons a horde of ghost and unholy energy for a massive attack. Stays in the back lines with the lich you raised from the dead. You love your sword, Noish's Promise, the snapdragon'd version of a man who was searching for his lost love. Stole the Brynhildr from the Kastolian Seas, gave it to Galf in a dark bargain to raise an army of the dead. Phantoms, skeletons, Evil Ones, and Devils roam the country side as you look for a Chaos Gate. You plan to drop a floating island on the capital of Xenobia. After that, you plan on having dinner with Galf...
Oh dang, I’ve got a Wii U. Thanks!
True Neutral. Average alignment, insane strength. When leading your army, you can strike from the backline with such supersonic speed that it cuts through the air. In close combat you attack three times before most can get off a single stroke. You spared Deneb, against the wishes of the people but your army Samurai, Ninjas, Witches, and Dragoneers did not care. You rescued Rauny from Ares, who wanted to bring her back to her father to be married off to some boring ass. You hate boring asses. Your preferred weapon is Sigmund, the sword of a legendary thunder god.
Yeah, OK, I can live with that. If this were D&D that'd probably lock me into being a Druid, but I don't know if Tactics Ogre has a similar kind of thing.
What do you think is the most important ability trait which must be found in a successful king?
What do you think is the most important thing to remember when walking the path of the warrior?
After a difficult battle, the army you lead was unfortunately defeated. What was the cause of your defeat?
You are standing in front of a mirror which shows your best trait. What is shown in the mirror?
In the country where you rule, a cult has started a rebellion. What do you do?
You are staring at the full moon the night before a battle. What are you thinking of?
After a long and difficult battle, your army has finally achieved victory. What do you credit your victory to?
You want to be sure that your knights abstain from disgraceful behaviour. What do you warn them most about?
It's a really good series. I would recommend looking up a guide to help get you to the Best Ending of the first game (it's basically impossible to do without one) and don't be afraid to just straight up look at a guide with ALL the secrets for the first five or six levels. The instruction manual was literally just the controls and a guide to the first seven or so stages.
All of them

person of lordly caliber is one of my... maybe top 3 games of all time? but I still haven’t dabbled in any of the others. I need to find some time at some point, ogre battle really is a special thing
Do not get the PSX version of Tactics Ogre. The load times are atrocious, you don't have nearly the same freedom as you do in the PSP version, you don't get the PSP potraits nor the improved translation.
Thanks! I definitely wouldn’t have done this otherwise.
This might be my next deep dive. I’ve been on a Dragon Quest for a bit now, but might take a break after 5.
