"Visit Venables to figure out how to stop Tua." I mean, due credit to Venables, but there are three first round picks on his defensive line with a fourth suspended. Have that isn't exactly a strategy.

Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.

Not per the transitive property of college football

If you want to go transitive, Ohio State beat Maryland who beat Texas.

I picked Clemson to win but Bama to cover.

    This result, is, uh, surprising.

So turn it over on downs deep in Clemson territory is like Alabama’s jam this game

As you saw on those third and fourth downs.

Glad Clemson is going to win at least.

I mean the two picks early on were more about disguising coverage than a freakish D-line, at least. But yeah, that goalline stand just showed what a great idea it is to have talent.

    3 touchdowns in the redzone.

That is one hell of a statline

That punt was the best thing that Alabama has done this half.

To further ruin the joke, OSU finished 3rd.

So anyone else prepared to watch Trevor Lawrence sit out all of next season waiting to get drafted? Because I think he might and probably should.

Ohio State hired away Michigan's LB coach (who has personal connections to both OSU and Ryan Day) and Michigan fans are freaking out

I mean, I'm frustrated too but I don't think it "reflects badly on Michigan" as some are saying

A guy left to coach for a school where his dad plyed and a HC who he used to work with. Plus a reported promotion (recruiting coordinator in addition to LB coach) and probable pay raise.

It's not as if he left because he found Michigan intolerable or something like that.

Michigan fans are, by and large, idiots. Also weren't you freaking out about Mattison yesterday?

I posted a tweet that I thought was funny, I wasn't actually freaking out

I was frustrated, but not actually convinced the sky was falling

I mean, I am kind of an idiot, but yesterday was not an example of it

Usually I like to complain about Texas bias in polls, but Texas being one spot behind Georgia in both AP and Coaches is hilarious. Remember kids, don't lose to Maryland.

I didn't catch the game last night, but I heard Clemson started playing this on their sideline at the start of the second half. Can anyone confirm?

Kliff abandoning USC is delicious, as is all the USC fans adamant that he wasn’t that good in the first place.

AND NOW, THE CONCLUSION OF OUR GRAND 2018-2019 SEASON PICK 'EM

First, let's conclude our Bowl Pick 'Em:
    uZGPcGm.png
    Congratulations @Blackhawk1313 !

And now, the moment you've been waiting for.... could erstwhile RMED preserve his lead?

    DzYZZri.png
    @Ladybug2332 is our overall winner!

And so concludes the pick 'em. First off, I'd like to thank @Nirya once again for doing what I consider to be the hard part: writing about the games! And I'd also like to thank YOU for playing!

And let me take this opportunity to also say that if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for the pick 'em feel free to let me know here in the thread. I know I said last offseason that I was going to try to develop a system better suited to our needs than Google Docs. I still want to do that, but I can't promise anything. One question I have in particular relates to the format: would you like to see a split of straight-up and against the spread games like we do in the regular season, or would you prefer all picks be against the spread like we did for the bowls? Would you be adverse to other things like a "G5 Special" on a weekly basis?

Otherwise, I've already got the schedule for the games of August 31st this year pulled up, and we'll see you then.

I want to extend my thanks to @ASimPerson and @Nirya for running the pick'em again this year. It was a lot of fun as usual, and got me a little more invested in random games I probably wouldn't otherwise care about.

To answer your questions, I think generally if the spread is <5 points then the outcome is often a tossup. I like the split between straight-up and spread for this reason. I'd be interested in seeing other events pop up from time to time. Maybe something like "pick a single winner" from a pool of teams over the course of a few weeks but you can't pick the same team twice? Maybe once conference play starts and only allow a pool of perennially average teams. Once you miss a pick you're out for the rest of the season and can't claim any more bonus points. This might require a lot of bookkeeping though.

I really need to stop picking Bama to cover in championship games. Third year in a row I've been burned.

Thank you for running the pick'ems. I'd say keep doing what you're doing as it seems to work great.

I wish to extend my thanks as well for y’all doing it, it’s a blast every year. And this year is so completely perfect in the end results. Me winning the bowl one but my wife winning overall just matches up with reality between us entirely too well.

    @Munkus Beaver

Do you have any thoughts on Josh Gattis? I ask because Michigan seems to have hired him as offensive coordinator. Coaching the Alabama WR corps from this year seems like a pretty big positive. And before that he was PSU's WR coach when they were like Allen Robinson and those dudes. I am encouraged.

I don’t, really. I am not great about paying attention to the staff in general and I’ve only gotten worse about it since they are so transient a lot of the time under Sabin.

He's a fucking great WR coach and probably a top 10 recruiter in the nation. I'm seriously pissed he is going to you guys. If he had gone to Maryland instead, at least their other deficiencies would have kept him in check. That's a huge, huge gain on your end.

You might wanna ask @“The Sauce” about it, she is generally better about paying attention to who’s who behind the scenes.

Edit what the fuck, I can’t @ the sauce? The fuck?
