yume's Art Thread

edited June 2007 in Artist's Corner
Hi I'm new.

I draw and doodle a lot, but I've never really done anything serious. AKA my artz bring me no bling D:
I'm going to take a community college art class in a couple of months and I think it'd be good to get some honest opinions from strangers. XD I think that I've grown kind of dumb from being involved in too many oekaki boards/art communities where praise is heaped on you more for how popular you are then how well you can draw.

I've grown really weak at traditional pen on paper stuff (hence everything being digital) and I don't think I pick the best of colors when it comes to coloring. :'d

Milo_Ventimiglia_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
Milo Ventimiglia fanjunks. I don't use OpenCanvas much, but I'm trying to use it more often. I got bored with this after finishing the face and rushed through the rest, especially the background and shading so I put a concrete wall texture over the whole thing to fake it.
OpenCanvas/Photoshop

Yume___The_Seraphim_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
Quickly edited (by that I mean default photoshop shapes & filters x 100) image I used for my website so that it wouldn't look so plain. I press down really hard while drawing and I've been trying to reteach myself not to. I really liked how weighted the lines came out for this.
Photoshop

Anthology_of_Interests_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
Gift art for a friend who was down about her working situation. I did this in about 2 hours with out any previous thought about what I wanted to draw. Totally "sloppy & quick" compared to how I usually draw things and I think it came out better then most of the stuff where I might really be trying to put some effort into the drawing.
Photoshop

such_a_crazy_affair.png
:'D I drew this after a weird phone call from an old friend who had moved to a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico. I don't remember the entire story, but from what I do remember he couldn't use his shower for a few days and ended up bathing in his backyard where he accidentally picked up a snake.
Oekaki, PaintBBS

Lady_in_Red_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
Sometimes I just feel like drawing boobs (even if I end up covering them up). I like this and I don't like this. I think the face came out weird and I feel lazy for hiding the hands and legs.
Photoshop

Brenna___Queen_of_Hearts_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
More gift art. Totally traced the face, but did the hair myself (which I like the most). XD
Photoshop

Heroes_Peter_Petrelli_Redux_by_y_u_.jpg
Another MV fanjunk thing. I drew a similar image before this one, but while I was working on it I got bored/tired and ended up tracing most of it just to be done with it. That image got a lot of attention and I felt like it was really trash so I drew this one to make up for it.
Photoshop

Posh_Drew_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
I didn't feel like drawing one night, but I forced myself to anyway. I used two different paparazzi pics of Posh and Drew Barrymore for this. I should have changed brush sizes when doing Drew.

I love seeing people who do animte art, and actually know how to draw realistic art as well, kudos, from the chbifield faces to the Peter petrelli to the colours, great showing.

The colours in the third and last are the only really weak ones, they look like they've been burned by a Cornballer. The more non-stylistically derivative ones (not anime) are the best :^: Peter's cheekbone is a bit too mashed into his face, though.

I'll have to agree with my mustachioed, bomb-deploying cohort. I also like the ones with the less saturated colors, though I suppose that really boils down to a matter of preference.

What's up, Bombsy? Long time, my friend. I may be stopping around here a little more often now.

Your realistic pieces are superb, Yume. I don't really mind the oversaturated colours... much.

Irishlad: DUDE! You're the one who did that groupshot of Team Special Olympics (with a giant DMAC) back in the days of old! Head to the chat thread and tell us what's been up with you all this time!

Sometimes I think I'd really like to get away from doing anime art, but I think that's really more because of other people's reaction (good or bad) to it. Once you get the hang of it though it's a nice and easy style to duplicate.

D: I think those are the only two where I picked the colours myself with out relying heavily on a previous palette. I really wish I had a better eye for colour. Sometimes I feel like a human xerox machine when I have to refer back to the refference material so much.

:'d I did the lighting all wrong on this and I keep telling myself that I'm going to go back and fix it, but it's been months. But anyhoo, yay for the Mothman and more Mully!
    Photoshop

    Nikki_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
I was asked to draw something that resembled a screen siren. I decided to try out a semi-different style. I don't like the hands. Hands as big as Ham hocks I used to sketch pages full of hands all the time to get it right, but it never really sunk in.
    Photoshop

    Booth___Recovering_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
Again trying a different way of drawing/colouring. I did this during my initial excitement at learning how to use Photoshop's bezier tool like you would the one in an oekaki applet. I like brown lineart.
    Photoshop

    Mully___Hamster_Queen_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
I love drawing Mully stuff (if you can't already tell). *Hint*Hint* Mully send me crap to work on or my talent will be wasted on Milo junk and pr0n. XD
    Photoshop

    Tanuki___OHNOEZ_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
Fatal frame fanart (kind of) That's Kusabi or as I nicked him Tanuki, which made the game even more fun (if that's possible) because I played this with a friend (who covered her eyes a lot) and would scream "Ah! Tanuki!" whenever he appeared.
    Oekaki, PaintBBS

    Sakura_or_Something_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
I used to really love to draw oekakis, but then it became a job and I grew to hate it. I draw about 1 oekaki a year now, just to get the urge out of my system. :')
    Oekaki, PaintBBS

    JC___Tiny_Blue_Trunks_by_y_u_m_e.jpg
Sometimes I like to draw things that make me laugh. :O Most of the time this stuff is only funny to me though. Thankfully this falls under the category of funny and beefcake.
    Photoshop

    and finally two MSN doodles

    bspears-msn.jpg

    boobies-msn.jpg

XD These two are probably my most favorite drawings EVER!

Very nice with good colouring, some of it is very very manga, which is cool. You seem to draw very awkeard forearm/arm anatomy though.

I had to spend the better half of today in a doctor's lobby so I brought some stuff to draw with since I would really like to get better at the more traditional stuff. I had some previous doodles of Mully in my book plus blonde kind of = Mully for me. :'D In the non-traditional sense. un-Photoshoped version

D: I have no idea how skirts work! But I like how you can see the Mully pigtails in all the other hair. :D

I haven't been drawing much lately I think I'm in a slump :'D but ohwellz..

I need some crits/help with this: linked cause of lack of clothing.

I had set out to draw something totally pornographic. The original pose was kneeling, legs spread, no clothing at all, but I got sick of the legs and embarrassed by the penis :'D lol

I might trash this and go back and try the first pose again, but I've spent about 6 hours just messing around with this and would like to get something worthwhile out of it.

XD I didn't know if I should start a new thread for this, so here's some new stuff I've drawn in no particular order.
