Hbomberguy is a person who makes videos on youtube.
He's doing a grueling full completion marathon run of Donkey Kong 64, the longest collectathon ever devised by humans, to raise money for Mermaids UK as a big fuck you to some transphobic asswipe who will be forgotten in the trash can of history. Graham something? But that's not important. What is important is that this is raising a surprisingly large amount of money for a trans rights charity, and a cavalcade of interesting and important people have been cycling through his discord for the last 51 hours to help keep him from turning into a skeleton again.

The charity in question (Mermaids) was wrongfully accused by the Times in London of some boilerplate shit from the transphobic playbook. The accusations came in October and the correction came on 1/17/19
In the meantime, a campaign by Graham Linehan, a dude who wrote for some TV shows, was started to strip Mermaids of government funding which was awarded to them from the UK government by a charity lottery
Hbomb, a far left YouTube dude, decided to stream himself doing something incredibly masochistic- 101%’ing DK64, the epitome of bad collect-a-thom gaming
Setting out this past Friday with a modest goal of $500 raised for Mermaids, hbombguy has been struggling against a game he doesn’t remember how to play while a bunch of YouTube folks, including Lindsay Ellis and Natalie Wynn, join his discord to discuss important issues.
Hbomgguy far surpasses his expectations for fundraising, and the CEO of Mermaids, who did not know he was doing this until it started trending on twitter, joins his discord. The pace of donations increased by 300% and has sustained since (this was over 30 hours ago).
Graham Linehan starts tweeting about how bad raising money for Mermaids is and is owned the hardest anyone has been owned on Twitter. #thanksgraham is one of the hottest tags of the weekend.
Non YouTube folks begin noticing, including the original voice actor of DK in DK64, Cher, and AOC. The voice actor of DK joins and gives a “trans rights” in DK’s voice. AOC joins for a little bit and Bri ga down the house.
Hbombguy has raised over $200k, more than Mermaids’ annual operating budget, and still has ~12 hours to go. He has also promised a second stream sometime in the future for passing the “sex weed” goal of $69,420 raised.
As the “biggest crossover” post above highlights, this is looking like a huge cultural moment in the fight for trans rights awareness and I’m goddamn stoked about it.
