Reading the Into The Spider-Verse thread, I came across the concept of "Pump-Up Songs", defined as songs that help a person out of bed when lacking sleep, or getting pumped up for a task or activity that one has little interest in, or just burns out some nervous energy before a big day, or to give just a bit of a kick to wake you up for the drive home after a long day at work.
The kind of song that allows you to realign your headspace for a bit.
It's a concept I was familiar with before this, but didn't have a specific name for it before.
Since it's Monday, and a post-PAX Monday (even for those of us who weren't there in person, but still followed along on Twitch or through other social platforms) figured we could all use a bit of a pump up from our fellow posters.
Personally, my go to are the first two tracks from the Pacific Rim Soundtrack

I was enjoying a spirited drive home from work in my parent's dual-cab Mitsubishi Triton along some country back roads when this came on the radio, and I got a little, shall we say 'exuberant' with my cornering - on light truck tyres it didn't have much grip and the roads were completely deserted, so some Scando flicks here and there and a little power (what power, lmao) oversteer was good harmless fun on the slower tighter corners. As the song really got going, speeds increased. Then in the middle of a slightly faster corner, I hit a patch of scattered gravel in the middle of the road.
The problem with light truck tyres having low grip making it easy to slide an otherwise NOT very sporty vehicle means that when you DO need grip, you're proper fucked.
I over-corrected, it snapped back the other way, and from that moment on I was a passenger.
Through pure dumb luck, I managed to escape injury. I got a solid thump on the back of the head at one point ( I think from a tyre iron that was sitting in the rear passenger footwell?), but it didn't even raise an egg.
The ute was fucked.
I took out a small tree with the tray of the ute on the left side of the road when it snapped hard right oversteer after I over-corrected, rolled it at least once although from my best estimate more likely twice, managed to cave the roof almost all the way in, and bent the chassis really badly. It ended up on the passenger side on the wrong side of the road facing the wrong way, about two feet from a big-ass tree with a small plaque screwed into it denoting where some little girl had died in a car crash years earlier. There was also an old Chinese takeout fortune cookie scrip resting at the foot of said tree that said something like "a guardian angel is watching over you" which was SUPER poetic but it was actually just some old rubbish that came out of the ute while I was crashing it like an idiot.
Most Racer X songs make me want to run 2 miles and kick a mountain into pieces, good pick.

When I came across this song it was described by my favourite comics writer as such: "If I was going to fight crime, I think I’d have Surf Solar on my headphones, in a perpetual loop, as I fucked shit up. The sound of a face caving in, awesomely.
Gillen also wrote an entire issue of a comic around this song. It is a comic in which a character nicknamed "Kid-With-a-Knife" runs, fights, dances, and fucks. That is this song.
can't think of another song I have listened to in recent memory that makes me as ready to just fuckin' go as this one. Basically the whole soundtrack for this game rules tho.
totally different vibe. It's just so cool. I guess its tied a lot to how it is used in the game, but my god when this kicks in as soon as you enter the palace after sending the calling card... Most hyped I've felt in a game in ages.
And to move away from games music a bit... stuff that just gets the blood pumping
