I wonder how usual it is for locals in Bigfoot towns to go out in the woods and mess with Bigfoot hunters, hoot and holler and drum on logs like an ewok, I'd do it

The fact you thought it possible that I would not be aware of a Michael Shannon Ian McShane Ron Perlmann Christmas Bigfoot Marital Furry Drama film production tells me I do not promote my brand relentlessly enough

Are there special bigfoot hunting permits, or does it fall under a catch-all hunting without a permit law?
The latter I think. They kinda had fun with the reporting though.
And as someone who has a bigfoot-like story, a ufo sighting, and being yelled at by ghosts in a graveyard and still doesn't really believe in them? I relate very heavily to Agent Dana Scully
"Character in a supernatural setting who staunchly refuses to believe in the supernatural despite increasingly overwhelming evidence to the contrary" is one of my favorite tropes.

While I don't really believe in their existence, I did happily take the advice from the disembodied voice that sounded like a whisper echoing screaming "GET OUT! GET OUT!" at me and two friends in a graveyard.

If you think I'm not going to bring up the existence of Pottersville at even the tiniest of tangential openings then well
There's an atheist character in Discworld who makes a pretty good argument for himself even in a world filled with gods, but I can't actually remember what it was. I do recall that a literal lightning bolt hits nearby and he refuses to be bullied by it.

Its the Golem in the watch, Dorfl
And its not so much that he doesn't believe they exist, its that he disputes their right to influence him or anyone else
"Indeed, A True Atheist Thinks Of The Gods Constantly, Albeit In Terms Of Denial. Therefore, Atheism Is A Form Of Belief. If The Atheist Truly Did Not Believe, He Or She Would Not Bother To Deny."

There's also one in Small Gods, IIRC, one of the Greek-esque philosophers.
There's also one guy who tried to cheat the system be believing in all gods, thus he'll get to heaven whichever way it ends up being, only to wake up in the afterlife with a bunch of gods pissed off at him for trying to cheat the system.

If I recall the scene, he starts mouthing off about the gods and after each time a thunderbolt or some such flies in and so he asks a few questions and settles on mouthing off a small time god that won’t:can’t attack him.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

there's another one who's talked about in Small Gods, in the ancient Greece sendup city full of philosophers I think

That’s in small gods. It’s a guy who knows the gods exist, but he doesn’t believe in them. At the climax of the novel when the turtle god gets his belief back, he picks the dude up and has a confrontation with him, and ends up respecting his point of view.

I don't know how common it is, but they did make a terrible movie about it (filmed in my hometown, incidentally)

They're playing a Ghost in the Shell game and Dan is talking about how he is interested in watching it, but unsure because it is anime
It's kind of precious
