I have a 360 Elite being shipped to be within the next 3 days and I was wandering which games are must gets so I can begin a list of what to pick up. So far there are 2 games that I'm getting the day that I pick up the console and those are Guitar Hero 2 and Fight Night Round 3. Any others that I should look into getting which may be around the $30-40 range? My friend has Gears of War and Dead Rising which I will be snagging in the upcoming weeks.
Fight Night has received acclaim pretty much across the board, so you'll be good there. Same thing with GH2.
I don't have it, but I hear Dead Rising is pretty cool.
If you're looking for a creepy game, pick up Condemned--it's around $25, and a rather unsettling gaming experience if you like to get freaked out by spooky games.
I highly recommend Oblivion, unless you have absolutely no interest whatsoever in RPGs or D&D/Tolkien fantasy games. Even if you have a small interest in RPGs, this game should not be missed. I will have been playing it for a full year by the end of this June.
Gears is a good game, but the campaign is really short and I stopped playing multiplayer due to a number of issues: host advantage, the community can be hit and miss (like Halo 2), and the fact that the tactics eventually crumbled away and most games are just chaotic shotgun festivals these days. If you're a big fan of multiplayer shooters, I'd recommend any of the Ghost Recon titles available as well as Rainbow Six Vegas.
Racing: Project Gotham is good for an arcade fix, but if you're into the sim/GT thing, wait until the end of this month and get Forza 2--that game should be brilliant.

Personal taste is everything here, but here are my must haves:
Crackdown (not $40 now, but once the Halo 3 beta is over there should be plenty avail. used)
Dead Rising (under $40 used)
Gears of War (maybe $40 used)
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 and/or 2 (1st is $40 new, 2nd might be found at $40 used)
Guitar Hero 2
Lost Planet (maybe $40 used)
Project Gotham Racing 3 ($40 new)
Second for Crackdown
Also
Burnout Revenge - now a platinum hit (or whatever they're called)
Tiger Woods 07 if you like Golf
Saint's Row
Amped 3 (if you like snowboarding. This is a launch title, so you'll have to get online or likely used)

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?
I forgot about the Tiger Woods series of games so I'll probably pick that up.
Oblivion I'm not really interested in, I played it for about 30 minutes on PC and found it boring and slow and never went back to it.
C&C3 I'm getting for PC as I don't really like RTS games with a gamepad.
I'll check out Crackdown as well and see what that's all about.
Try the C&C3 demo on Xbox Live too, you might be surprised that they managed to make it work with the gamepad. I know I was. But if I had a gaming PC still I might not bother paying Xbox prices for a game that still plays better on a PC ... I do like them achievements though.
