I’m having a house-warming party tomorrow and I took today off work to give myself time to run errands and prep

Ain’t quite got started on any of that yet, so I’ll probably be running around like crazy this evening

Well. As these things go in my life.

A stranger deciding to try and talk to us about wrestling over dinner was new. That he was on the other side of the restaurant and shouting his part of the conversation though? That part was inspired.

Dogs? Is this the dog thread??

I love dogs! Let me talk about dogs for a while.
I get my puppy in a week and I am both excited and also it feels more than a little unreal

But I made space to build a crate tonight and have to do a solid apartment clean this weekend to make sure nothing .... chewable is in reach

Also our Level 2 obedience owners are even more invested than the last session in the training and it's been really fun to see them and their pups grow! They're good dogs.

Tynic's post in the last thread about being born in a country with no ozone layer above it making her impervious to sunburn was a crock!

I was born here too, and I roast like a suckling pig in the Summer sun. Hell, Spring can fuck me up pretty bad if it's a warm clear day and I forget to sunscreen up.

My dog threw up the pit of a kumquat in his crate this morning. He tried to wake me up but I didn't understand what was happening until it was too late.

Also Valhalla, I am currently good through that too! She asked for one in February.

I don't really have anything to yell about. Other than lack of funds. We just never xould get things going in the right direction, and I put that all down to lack nm of money.

GG's story at the end of last thread reminded that one of the places I really want to fly to after I get my license is Catalina Island.

So last night I had three consecutive stress dreams

First I dreamed I hurt my kid, so I was stressing out both because she was hurt and because I was going to lose custody of her

I woke up and fell back asleep

Then I dreamed my house’s roof was falling apart, and I was trying to ask my dad to help pay for it and he and my mom (who are separated and no longer communicate) were back together and screaming at each other again

As if that wasn’t enough, I then dreamed I was in trouble at work because I hadn’t generated in time

And finally I dreamed that I had to fetch a receipt for the lunch we had had but the only way to reach the restaurant was to cross a deep river on a tightrope

    What the actual fuck, brain

    Stress dreams are the worst.

I had one the other night where I got to work and my boss was like "we need you in the tank."

The tank was this cylinder type thing with molded spaces for two people to stand face to face with maybe a foot, two feet between them. The tank was then filled pretty much to eye level with water and you and the other person had to take turns passing a single breathing apparatus back and forth or you drowned I guess. That was the job. Try and hold your breath until the other person handed you the air mask again.

I feel like my brain might be trying to tell me something.

Jesus, folks. Usually my stress dreams are just being back in grad school and about to miss a term paper deadline or staring at the scheduling software trying to arrange some kind of impossible coverage. Ya'll have some kind of baroque Hellraiser stuff going on here.

I am far from knowledgeable about flying, but my understanding the airport on Catalina is pretty hairy, and a few times a year claims the planes of experienced pilots. Just my $0.02, but I would wait a while after getting your license before flying in there, get a few thousand hours under your belt.

    EDIT: Beated once again.

    Filed our taxes!

We’re getting back what we hoped for/I had estimated; enough to cover essential repairs to the house.

Which should relieve one source of stress!

catalina's runway being a harsh mistress is one of the very few things I remember from flight school. something about... there's a hump in it... and then it's really short... and then a cliff.

Articles like that are often... exaggerated. The runway at Catalina is longer than the one I train on. The most dangerous part about the runway is probably that it was in terrible shape, but it's currently getting redone by the Seabees and will reopen soon. The bigger issue for Catalina is that it's a trip over the open ocean, so you need to be prepared. To be fair, the first time I go there will be with my instructor, but after that I should be able to do it on my own safely.

After it reopens, the hump should be gone so you can at least see the other side.

That said, you need a plan. If you don't touch down in the first 1000 ft then go around. And at least you can go around at Catalina. There are mountain airports in California that I find scarier, like this one.
