I’m so angry that I had to miss a recent show with Leftover Crack, Days and Daze and the fucking Dayglo Abortions.
God damn that would have been a rowdy fucking evening.
I've opened a few basement shows for days n daze and been to I don't know how many of their shows, sometimes out in the woods and shit out in Wyoming, they're a rad bunch of folks!

Punk
My first show was AFI when I was 14, back when they were still hardcore punk. Dropped off and picked up in a minivan, which I think is the epitome of teenage punk. I'll never forget finding my mother after the show, sweet little thing, in a sea of mohawks and spikes and leather jackets.
Then I was introduced to Full Circle by my now favorite band, Pennywise, which I think is the most perfect album ever made.
Mom was in and out of the ICU through the end of my high school. I went to one or two punk shows a week to keep my mind and body busy. I never really got into the party culture at school. I skipped Homecoming to see Pennywise at Red Rocks. And my high school had two or three punk/hardcore bands that opened for a bunch of local shows. We even somehow got Grimlock to play at a tiny Mexican restaurant in my tiny mountain town. Punk got me through some teenage things.
Then I got into Floggin Molly, and I'm all about the Celtic Punk now. Give me all the fiddles and mandolins and scally caps.
Here's some Mickey Rickshaw. Awesome bunch of fellas. They play from the heart and jump into the pit if they open and have a band after them.
Saw Pinata Protest a few weeks ago open for The Real MacKenzies. Mariachi punks! They absolutely blew me away. They did a Wall of Death based on whether you liked red or green salsa.

I was really into Pennywise and then I saw them live at a venue where they blamed Jews for heightened security (the implication was that someone had sued the club).
if you haven't listened to this, and you've got a soft spot for big bold brass sections, i highly recommend. this actually is one of my favorite ska songs ever for horns, though Five Iron has always had great brass.

oh man, five iron frenzy
I saw them open a show with Lagwagon and Bouncing Souls
Right before the show, me and my buddy found out that the corner market down the hill from my brother's place we were staying at sold 64 ounce bottles of Olde English, with the fucking bum jug loop and everything, so we got my brother to run down and buy some for us because we were both under 21.
The show was starting in half an hour, so we fucking pounded this half-gallon of nasty-ass malt liquor, then sprinted the five or six blocks to the venue.
We get in, and hooooo boy that shit hit all at once. I was druuuuuunk. Five Iron Frenzy started playing, and there was a couple dozen folks watching the show, but it's the opening band, not a ton of energy yet.
Me, being a young dumb punk kid and also fucking druuuuunk, decided it would be hilarious to start heckling, so I go right up to the stage and flip off the singer and yell "YOU SUUUUUCK".
He calmly walks over and just grabs my glasses from my face and continues playing.
"Well fuck that," thought I, and leapt up on the stage, snatched my glasses back and put them on, then stage-dived into the crowd while flipping him the bird.
Except the crowd was maybe 20 people who all wisely got the fuck out of the way of this drunk kid leaping off the stage, leaving me to land, hard, directly onto my hip. The singer fucking laughed out loud mid-song but the band kept going, and I limped my way back out of the room to go check out the merch booth and pretend like I didn't really, really hurt myself.

We used to toss pinatas out into the crowd at our shows. Sometimes we filled then with weird shit like condoms and mayonnaise packets. People loved the goddamn pinata toss.

I found footage of one of my favorite shows I ever went to -- Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Misfits and GWAR at the DV8. Unfortunately the footage of the Misfits was taken down, but here's the Glow Skulls and GWAR's sets.

I've seen them beach side and I can confirm they wear their hats to the beach. The lead vocalist wore a captains hat.

But we "accidentally" did a bunch of mushrooms with them instead and concert just ended up being the Smalls and like 30 punks in a backroom giggling.
Only music played was when a random person would walk up to the stage area and play 1-2 notes on something and then burst out laughing
