Advice needed regarding favourite actor.

Hi there,

I would greatly appreciate some help. I met my favourite actor years ago and we have kept in touch via email. He created a YouTube channel fairly recently and I said to him that I would help promote it as that was something he was struggling to do. I set up a tie in Facebook page and even paid for it to be advertised on FB. All had been going well until last week. I asked him last Tuesday if he had some photos that I could put on my FB page to help it stand out more in order to get more people to like and subscribe. He got back to me the following day saying that he would reply properly to me the next day. He didn't and I sent him an update on the FB advert on Monday and he still hasn't got back to me. Since starting the page his video views have rapidly increased and his subscribers have almost trebled. He also said that he would send me DVDs of a series he starred in, but that was more than a month ago and nothing more has been said about it. I just don't understand how he has suddenly started to fob me off, to ignore me and to say he would do something for me then not do it. He has always been quick to reply and I've never thought he was the type of person to be nasty. He also knows that my health has been really bad and this not knowing what I have said or done to make him act like this towards me is not helping me at all. Do you think I overstepped my mark by asking for the photos (which I only did to try and help him) or can you think of another possible reason why he is doing this to me? Many thanks for reading.

Is it possible you misunderstood the context of his correspondence with you? What you saw as keeping in touch was just answering fan mail and occasional promotion of media?

In either case, I wouldn't pay to market someone else regardless of how you think of the celebrity. They do just fine on money and have people professionally paid to promote them. You don't need to be doing that for them.

Thanks for your reply. It is possible that I have somehow misunderstood something, but the email I use is his personal one and is not advertised anywhere online. You are right about me paying for the adverts. It's maybe a bit too much. I just feel quite hurt and upset about him doing this and I'm even considering taking the page down. If he doesn't get back to me soon then I definitely will be doing that.

You probably should take it down in either case. The actor has their own companies driving their media, while fan driven things are fine if its something you want to do for you, you never should be doing it for them. That's what their agent is for.

Just being the cynical jerk that I am, prepare for things to get lawyery if you take the site down if it's actually driving traffic. Probably better the less material of his that you have.

Maybe it was just a communication thing and he thought he was helping you, but I would shut it down and unfortunately take this as a lesson about fandom and working for free.
