I am trying to watch The Fountain (1.77:1 aspect ratio) using PS2 as a DVD player on Sharp Aquos LC26GA4U (could be 5U, I think the answer is probably the same anyway), and every input setting I try seems to either stretch it out of proportion or have excessive black bars. I'm just trying to fit the movie to the screen in it's original aspect ratio, black bars don't bother me as long as they aren't half the screen like in sidebar mode, and all the other settings seem to be stretching the movie out of proportion or cutting parts of it off. What am I doing wrong and how do I go about fixing it?
Your remote should have a button that will let you choose view modes. These are usually: Stretch, Zoom, Zoom-S, Normal etc.
If Normal is giving you a letterboxed picture with black bars on the side then try Zoom.
I can go check it again, but when I hit that button, normal had excessive black bars and zoom cut off an entire part of the menu. It is possible (if retarded) that the menu is in an entirely different aspect ratio than the rest of the movie.
Edit: Because it's 1.77:1 instead of 1.78:1 Zoom cuts off a very tiny part of the screen, but nothing to worry about. Thanks Suds, problem solved.
