I have just completed moving all my stuff into my home. Somewhere in the course of this move, I seem to have lost the manufacturer's CDs that would allow me to completely format my laptop and start fresh.
The laptop is an hp pavilion zd7000.
I am not certain how I might go about formatting this now. I would like to basically have it stripped down to empty, with windows and the essential drivers put back on, but I do not know how to do something like this without the format CDs. What should I do? Is there any way to facilitate this without the CDs?
If you still have the serial number (side of the case) you should be able to call HP and get new CDs. Last I knew, they wanted $20 to send you a replacement set.
A lot of the laptops from places like HP/Sony and such i've seen also tend to have a recovery partition on the hard drive. Take a look on bootup and see if you can just do a restore to manufacturer default and you'll restore it to how it came from the factory.

Should be glued to the back or side of the case.
Shiny tag that says "Windows XP Professional" or "Windows XP Home Edition"
That code should work with any Windows XP OEM disc.
Any drivers that aren't built-in to Windows should be availalble on the hp website.
