I hope no one gets this finicky when I pick up my Sisters and I paint them a shade of purple and put a big Slaaneshi symbol on them :P
Honestly though I don't know how I'll want to paint my Sisters when I end up picking up some from at least a basic squad box.
I mean I wouldn't give a shit unless you started trying to soup in Chaos.
If you're running a pure sisters army paint em however you want.
Hell even imperial soup I wouldn't care much though it may look out of place.
If I wanted to play Sisters alongside my CSM I'd probably sub the Sisters in as cultists stand-ins. Have they made Renegade Guard/Chaos Cultists into at least their own sub-faction? Personally, I find it deeply ironic that the Genestealers got IG conversion stuff before Chaos did, at least in mainline 40k and reliable numbers.

Heretics and renegades have rules and are the chaos IG equivalent (I think it may be through FW?) They are just index only and absolutely utter trash so no one recommends it.

I really wish that GW would do something to improve the situation with the army rules. A Space Marine codex with supplements for each of the loyalists is a bit excessive. Unfortunately they’re wedded to the rulebooks as a revenue source. Makes sense since they do good fluff, but it’s annoying. Paperbacks would be nice too. You can’t quite charge the premium price, but with the 2.0 books coming out, hardcover books really look like an excuse to bump up the price of things.

It was said earlier they need to start pushing the e books of them more. I would like how comics give the code for the download of it to come in the book itself
I'm honestly surprised that they've gone this route with supplements, I thought campaign books were going to be the model going ahead. Which sounds like it would make more business sense, because if a campaign book has, say, specialist detachment rules for multiple factions then more players will buy it compared to however many players of specific subfaction X there are.
I kind of suspect that GW are flailing to figure out what their revenue model for rules in a constantly updated edition should be like, and I'm not super happy about the answers they've come up with.

I think they need to go a bit further. Somehow. Infinity is doing the 2.0 books with the online crunch, and it seems to work nicely. I think there is a real conflict between GW as a company that makes its money off of plastic mans and one that tries to get maximum revenue off of the rule set too. The conflict doesn’t have to happen, they could slow up on the new rules, but it’s there.
I find I especially egregious when they’re offering expensive collector’s editions for a book that probably won’t be usable in four year’s time.

I would get behind campaign books as part of/in lieu of Chapter Approved/annual FAQs, but I don’t really like that there are game-changing supplemental rules or specialist attachments there. It just seems like one more thing I have to buy. At this point I could get behind a subscription service, but it would have to be comparable to D&D Beyond, both in price and also features.

I made a Space Wolves Dreadnought list. I don't know why. I need to drop $349 retail on it. I figure like $50ish in tax and the. I have a 20% off coupon at my LGS. Just gotta buy a dreadnought, Space Wolves venerable, redemptor, and three victors. I figure the iron Priest are thematic.
Why can the normal dread be equipped with auto cannons but doesn't come with them? Where can I get auto cannons?

I'm guessing the old SM codex e-books are going to be just as obsolete, yeah?

Dual autocannons are awesome. This little fella isn't pretty (he's firmly entrenched in the "I painted this model right after I started playing and my skills have improved considerably since then so I should probably repaint it but I have so many unpainted models that I should be working on before I start redoing older ones), but he's pretty hilarious in-game.
The Venerable Dreadnought can take two autocannon arms in the Index, so if he doesn't move (or if he does and I pay a Command Point) he's throwing 8 S7 AP-1 (AP-2 with the new doctrines) D2 shots per turn that are hitting on 2s (rerolling 1s if you use Wisdom of the Ancients) from up to 48" away. This comes in at only 156 points. Having 2 damage shots is great for deleting Primaris Marines as well as all of the other recent 2W models that have been coming out. I like to park him somewhere elevated in the backfield and let him go to town all game.

So instead of buying the dreadnoughts I'd need to create my 12 dreadnought list I might grab the blackstone fortress bundle and then buy some terrain pieces that I saw midwinter minis painting up that match tiles on the blackstone fortress setup.
Edit: I need some rules clarification for rerolls and modifiers. The Eliminators with their update can have the sergeant give up shooting to give 1 to hit and wound rolls. If I have a wolf lord and wolf guard battle leader sitting with the eliminators and give them the 1 to hit and wound would I still reroll hit rolls of 1 since they normally hit on 3 and if I need a wound roll of 3 is it the same deal? Or does the 1 get the modifier to be a 2 and then I don't get to reroll it because technically it is a 2?

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
rerolls happen before you apply modifiers.
natural 1's always miss no matter what your modifiers would bump them up to.
if you get to reroll depends on the wording of the ability, older datasheets had the funky rule interaction where you could miss after modifiers but be unable to reroll because you "technically hit"
I don't have the wolf codex so I cant see how those are worded.
I had the thought that it would be hilarious if a final release video started showing a bunch of scenes with psykers starting shit, suddenly bolter fire, the psykers are mowed down.
Endless Spells and probably a couple of new characters for a few factions. Harlequins looked like they were getting a new model in the Rumour Engine a while back, that could easily turn out to be a Mime or Warlock.

I don't think it will be endless powers. Not two weeks after they released a new SM codex without a single mention of them.
With the new Dark Angels index coming next month, I think we're getting The Lion re-awakening though I don't think that's the whole thing. My guess is a new narrative campaign, with new psychic rules/powers, and The Lion returning as part of the campaign.
I mean, if it's like the endless spells for AoS, those are really an expansion that operates entirely seperatly from codexes. You just buy them like units in your list, and then use psykers to cast/deny them. I don't think the SM codex would have any impact on that.

Battle Tomes have faction specific endless spells in them in AoS. Why would they release the SM codex, then two weeks later add a major new rules set that they would then have to errata the SM codex to have their faction specific endless powers?
I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm saying it would be dumb and show serious lack of forethought form GW. People would rightly complain that their two week old book is now missing vital play information. A constant complaint that is only getting worse. This would probably be the most egregious example yet.
I figure its a new campaign book. I am still not sure if I am making the preview tonight. I have another lord discordant to paint plus some smaller models by Friday.

This would seem entirely par for the course. For GW, just having released something has never been a valid reason not to release another thing that completly invalidates the first thing.

I agree that in general it's a GW thing to do. I'm saying that two weeks is audacious even for them.

Not knowing how they work in AoS, I just assumed it'd be a seperate book. Chapter Approved and Specialist Detachments don't currently get errataed into older books, would permanent psychic spells be so different?
Age of Sigmar gets away with it by having all warscrolls (read: datasheets) being available for free online and in their phone app. So they can and do replace warscrolls and add new ones to older armies
GW is releasing new stuff at a breakneck pace, literally cartoon characters doing shenanigans on conveyor belts. They’re not gonna hold up something like the marine codex for another project, that’s what the warhammer community faq site is for.

Anyone know if this GW preview thing is being streamed? It didn't look like NOVA Open has a stream of their own, and the Warhammer twitch stream doesn't seem to be spooling up for anything. I'd even take an Apple event style live-blog.

So yeah, Psychic Awakening is a new narrative campaign, which is what I thought. New rules for every faction, but nothing specifically about endless powers. Also some big promises about tying up some "decades long plot threads".
Also Index only units are "dead." They are releasing final points and that will be it. They recommend them not to be in competitive events as they will no longer have balance passes.
So long folks index only options.

This Warhammer Legends thing is a step in the right direction, but it's definitely going to ruffle some feathers. Once a model/unit hits the Legends list it's no longer going to move forward with the evolving game balance and will probably not be allowed at most tournaments.
