I kinda always hate Singleton because making a deck is a pain in the ass.
Also, I can't help but notice this is a format with so much near-interchangeable quality removal that well over half the queue seems to be UB control with discard and removal and a pile of planeswalkers. Honestly, got a couple wins and left.

Event was fun!
Played a grixis walker/control deck, Dmir control and 1 random game of vamps.
I really really wish they would update the deckbuilder to show you what card are making the deck not legal to play. It took so long scrolling up and down the decks trying to figure out what was wrong. Just make them marked red or something. Boom, easy.
Pulled two Jaya, Venerated Firemage as ICRs, which isn't all that exciting since she's just uncommon, but now I kind of want to make an All Fire Ladies deck.
Had an opponent thought erasure me turn two, saw the five rats in my hand plus the one on the board, and scooped.
It’s not a good deck, but you win or lose in minutes. Made the event real fast.
Rats are too filthy.
*makes 38x Persistent Petitioners deck*
Rats and petitioners are super vulnerable to blast zone and legion’s end and it’s real easy to main board both if you’re running any black.
fuck gendered marketing

Yea rats and petitioners can be annoying if they go off early but they are super vulnerable to lots of stuff.
People play them because they are just trying to go through the event fast and easy with fast wins or losses, not because they are super strong and OP or something.
I love playing Sultai in the singleton events. So many fun, wonky card interactions with stuff like Muldrotha, Underrealm Lich, Journey to Eternity etc.
I still need two wins. Petitioners is giving me fast games and most of my wins (although a ton of losses). Tried rats once and didn't like it. I've tried a mono green deck with what is in my collection and keep getting wrecked. I don't hate the format, but as someone who doesn't want to blow a lot of stuff crafting I hate the event.

Man I just saw the saddest thing.
Day9 playing Yarrok Field against an Explore Field deck.
Game 1 going very long. Explore deck has somewhere around 500 life. Day9 has more zombies though so they can't attack him.
Day9 gets down to his last card as Nexus. Loops turns to build up enough zombies to take down all of the opponents life around his zombies.
But the other player clearly knows about the play clock. And just makes Day9 play out the whole damn thing because the interface makes the process so slow. In paper magic the game was over and a win for Day9 but the client/opponent made him use so much time that going into game 2 he only had 2min left of play.
He tried to go as fast as he could every turn but the clock ran out and the opponent gets the win on the whole series despite being 0-1. So unfortunate.

My quest today was 30 black/blue for 750. I don't really have a black/blue deck that's any good. I played a couple games with mono decks, and ended up 1 away. I figured, well, already got a win and I only need one cast, might as well give the BU deck I actually have a try.
My BU deck is Ob Nixilis/Spark Double. That's it, that's the deck. Stall, get Ob out, Spark Double him a lot, clear the opponent's board of creatures, ping them to death. Bunch of proliferate to keep the Obs alive.
I would learn over the course of the game I was facing black/white lifegain/Citadel. First turn I Duress a Hieromancer's Cage...and aside from creatures that seemed to be the only thing they had that could threaten planeswalkers. I won with three Obs on the board after taking out a Doom Whisperer.
Got my singleton wins but wow was it ever boring as hell. I only faced three deck types: green black ramp/growth/beef into ghalta or red green ramp/beef into ghalta, or mono red wins.
I feel like the last singleton event was a lot more fun, with way more different decks. I'm running into a ton of UB control, mono black, mono green, and mono red. Not even any rats or petitioners yet. My GW proliferate deck isn't doing as well as it did last time.

I feel like the fact that it's time-gated rewards on such a short timer makes people a lot more anxious to get it done than have fun with decks.

Also just over the course of such a few amount of games isn't a very good sample size. You can just get very unlucky but that doesn't mean that there were more or less of certain types of decks at the event overall.

I don't know what they were thinking with the start time, it's 5 pm on Sunday Euro time. Would it hurt them to start it 24-36 hours earlier?

heck, just making it start at the same time quests roll over would make things a lot less of a faff
i was planning on skipping this event because i didn't really want to deal with figuring out a deck in the half a day of playtime I'd have for it but i just saw cubeapril share this list and i loaded it up and very quickly went 6-1 including one t0 opponent scoop and me scooping too early to a game i was still in to a 3/4 voracious hydra killing my adeliz and for some reason i thought i had no way to deal with it and assumed it being a big hydra would kill me quick (it was just a ittybitty 3/4 hydra tho)

I really really wish they would update the deckbuilder to show you what card are making the deck not legal to play. It took so long scrolling up and down the decks trying to figure out what was wrong. Just make them marked red or something. Boom, easy.
You can click the "stats" part next to the deck name and it pulls up more info about the deck you are currently editing. From there you can change the deck to whatever format you want. For example, choosing Singleton on the drop down makes it so you only ever have one copy of a card. This makes pauper so much easier to build for too!

What the what! Thanks for this.
Unrelated, I made a Yarok Fields deck last night.
So much fun.
But playing Bo1 without Nexus to save your butt when you draw/graveyard everything is definitely a liability!

I've run into several decks that have used Gaea's Blessing for recursion. Now Loaming Shaman is also an option.

Shelled out some wildcards for this spicy deck from like two sets ago. It's hilarious when it goes off and you get mega beefy soldier tokens with haste. This deck is asking for a laggy experience, but thankfully Arena handles treasure tokens better now and the piloting is smoother.
I've been wondering how to update the deck for M20 and I saw Day9 was playing around with a 1000yr Storm deck yesterday I think and he used Blood Suns and Lotus Fields to ramp real nice (double edged sword though!).

The audacity of a guy who won't concede when I'm at 90 life, when he's at 12, when I have more (if smaller) creatures, when he has no cards in hand while I'm drawing two or three each turn, who's playing a goblin deck and is backed into such a corner he won't even sacrifice a goblin token with Siege-Gang Commander--when he is at almost every possible disadvantage one can have in a Magic game--and then relentlessly ropes every time priority passes to him for the remaining two turns of the game after I send a flyer to kill his Jaya when he has no flyers...

Esper Control reporting in for Singleton. Went 6-1.
This is by far the best event in my opinion. Partly because it give so much opportunity for deck diversity.
Maybe I'll try mono-black aggro.

Twice I get opening hands of Leyline, Lanowar, another mana elf, 2 forests, and a giant creature I can drop on turn 3 now with all that mana.
2nd guy conceded immediately on that happening.

I've still won with mill decks against it, you just have to go through their deck eighteen times first.
Oh dang.
That is exactly what I need. Thanks for the tip!
You're just not a big shot MTG master unless every deck you own has two Gaea's Blessing, two fountains of renewal and two Immortal Suns.
What a time to be alive!

I know right, that makes you a real champion! For reasons!
Exactly what I would have needed to sweep his three Paradise Druids and other weenies off the board.
