Because if you're going to attempt to squeeze that big black monster into your slot you will need to be able to take at least 12 inches or else you're going to have a bad time...
The Kethis deck is actually super good, at least with the format's particular dearth of removal and counterspells.

Hey guys! I'm doing some War of the Spark draft. I have all the cards from that set to this is really just for funsies and improving my drafting skills. Come on over and give me and Megamuffin some advice and cheer us along as we try to climb up the ranked limited ladder best we can : P
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Just played some games using my old Azorius Superfriends deck from War of the Spark standard...
One game versus Gruul Dinos where I managed to stall against 3 Ilhargs, a Rhonas and a Ghalta and won by playing Finale of Glory for x = 10. Three big beefers can't get through 60 power and toughness.
The other game was against Chandra Tribal and I won, again with Finale of Glory and stall, through facing several turns of having 7 of Chandra Awakened Inferno's on me. 3 Interplanar Beacons and a bunch of Planeswalkers kept me healthy through it all.
Felt so good to win those games and I can only imagine my opponents felt so robbed.
There aren't many decks that aren't made more fun with 1 x Helm of the Host.
Whenever I see a decklist with Karn and a toolbox sideboard that doesn't include Helm, I just have to shake my head.
edit: speaking of, I've been trying out a "Big Blue" deck that makes lots of mana with Gilded Lotus, Powerstones, and Manifold Keys and then casts big Mass Manipulation or blue Finale or or Flood of Tears or Karn tools. It's fun to hit five lands and be able to drop Lotus and Key and another Lotus, but so far it's been too slow to catch back up with an established board.

I'll try subbing in Saheeli for those Callous Dismissals, I don't think they're doing enough. And Saheeli can get out of control too once you have a Lotus or Powerstone going.

Ugh, bouncing between 93-98% Mythic. Can't seem to get back over the hump.
I am seeeeeeriously tired of the current RDW meta. Oh, here's Chandra's Spitfire plus Cavalcade of Calamity, now the Spitfire I played last turn is an 11/3.

I prefer it to the degenerate scapeshift bullshit or vampire aggro
Cavalcade decks always end up with like 3 cavalcades and zero creatures in play against me. I think it's easily the worst build of red. I get the desire to move toward rotation proof things and that it can be tough to build into other decks but I think red is not in a great place until scapeshift leaves

it is a deck exclusively designed to win or lose Bo1 at a ridiculous pace
it's not fun to get blasted by turn 4, but it is actually a pretty bad and inconsistent deck

So nice to see the events shaking up the types of decks you see in the queue....what's that? they're still 80% RDW decks? gosh! who could've seen that coming

It's not even good in this format! You need pretty solid draw and a good mix of stuff to actually make any headway

scapeshift is outrageously stupid in this format
like, it is already the best deck in standard, and this event makes it that much more powerful
TBH, the event seems specifically best for Cavalcade of Calamity. You either trigger spectacle, make a 1/1 for Cavalcade, or hit your land drops consistently. Letting scapeshift stall and dig better is nice though.

Yeah, think I went something like 6-3, and the only games I lost were two to a Risen Reef-based Elemental deck and one to a tower of power quasi-Gates deck that focused entirely on sweeping creatures out of play (with everything from Planar Cleansing to Settle the Wreckage to Gates Ablaze) and then outlasting the opponent by virtue of having the bigger deck.
I had terrible luck at first but managed to win pretty consistently with my old Jeskaifriends deck. It's not actually good (too slow to win with Sarkhan beats given the event lets people get enough card advantage to not be lockednout), but most people scoop when they're aggro and I'm gaining 2-4 life per turn and tempoing out with PWs
I played scapeshift for the event and went up against mostly risen reef decks. Went like 6-2 overall though. Had several people concede as soon as I got like 5 lands out and it was clear I was scapeshift.
Got up to Gold 3 2 pips, the highest I've ever been!
Ending the night now Gold 4 2 pips...
I also learned the hard way the tier dropping protection is only a thing when you first break into the tier huh?
That was quite unfortunate.
I believe the protection lasts for two or three loses.
About these weekend events... I beat the two Scapeshift decks I faced this time. The rest of the decks I played against were all Cavalcade Red. In fact, almost every deck I faced in every event, aside from Singleton, was a flavor of Mono-Red. I think that all of the events missed the mark entirely of "make a fun deck to interact with this interesting mechanic," and were not enjoyable. Just a chore to get done.
In other news I thought a bit about my Jund Land Destruction deck. I was running one Leyline of Abundance but realized I only had 4 mana creatures. Cut the card for a spicy Leyline of Anticipation with no blue sources. It has been super fun every time I've started with it and has hurt significantly any time I've drawn it.
Went 6-1 or 6-2, I forget, with Chromatic Black (Dread). Never actually used the Scapeshift victory condition, Zacama just wrecked everyone all on his lonesome.

There's absolutely a place for RDW in a metagame... but that gets weird when you move to a digital format. You can easily get one game done in two minutes with this current RDW flavor. Whether it's a win or a loss isn't really relevant, because you can just churn 'em out at a machinegun pace.

I don't have a problem with RDW at all. I just think it's against the spirit of the events. "What do I do with this limited time, interesting mechanic? I dunno, probably just slam RDW so I can ignore it, win or lose in the first couple turns of the game, and get the event over with." That's cool for ladder where the goal is to climb the ladder. It's a feels bad when it's the majority of several weeks of unique events. Definitely made me enjoy them significantly less. All just my opinion though.

Playing a Dimir Reanimator deck. This last game I kept pulling black lands and everything blue got ditched into the graveyard.

Running Saheeli?
Not in the original list, but that was my first thought. Here's the starting list: https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/aliaintrazi-08212019-battle-of-one-big-blue

I've had four ropers in a row just now. It honestly feels worse than AFKs in mobas.

Yea I mean I though it was always there if you drop to the bottom of a tier. I didn't realize that once you get a win the protection goes away.
