I ran into the trouble with my old computer of being completely unable to convert my DVD's to iPod format, and became frustrated at the lack of iPod format copies of movies I owned available for download. Now that I'm able to convert my own, I thought I would start uploading them so others who own the movie could download them easily. Please keep in mind that I own a legally purchased copy of the movies that I am uploading. The actual question is how legal is it to upload these movies in iPod format with the following message to sites such as demonoid.com
"This is the action movie V for Vendetta ripped to be playable on your iPod video. The movie is in it's correct picture ratio and was ripped at 1000 Video Bitrate. It is illegal to download this in many countries if you do not already own the movie. If there is anything wrong with it, please message me (TheScythe21@gmail.com) and I'll try to fix it, I have more iPod movies coming soon. Enjoy."
Is this legal for me to do as a way of giving back to the community? If not, is there anyway for me to make it legal?
also, you're more likely to get busted for uploading than downloading, as the MPAA is going after the source of the movies, the seeders.
if you really feel you want to spread the DVD-to-iPod love, make a tutorial explaining step by step how its done, or link people to an existing tutorial.
No, it is not legal. Pirates use rationalizations like this all the time in trying to avoid being shut down but that doesn't make it legal. Do you really think everyone who downloads your file will already have a copy of the Vendetta DVD?
I'm kind of disappointed, but thanks for the information. I guess I'll go ahead and take down the ones I put up before I thought to ask here, which I'm glad I did.

Before I got new computer, I had an iPod perfectly capable of playing movies but no way of converting my dvd collection to iPod format, despite having a great tutorial on how to do it, simply because my computer was too slow.
Also, before this thread is closed, how likely am I to get in trouble for what I've already uploaded (4 movies in about 48 hours)

Not very likely, they haven't been up that long and probably aren't popular. If anything happens, which is pretty unlikely, you'd probably get a letter from you IP telling you to stop.
