Buying A new Computer

I need to upgrade, my old computer is dying and is seriously out-dated.

I have $2500 to spend, all i really want to do with it is play games and use the internet, and maybe watch DVD's on it.

was one that has been suggested to me, in no way is it final or anything, i just thought i'd link it to show prices...

i live in Australia so stuff is slightly more expensive, hence the $2500.

doesn't have to be pre-built because while i don't personally have the expertise to build a computer by myself, i have friends who do.

Basically, i'm just looking for all your opinions on whats good to buy right now,
i'll be looking to buy keyboard/mouse and monitor also.

I looked for a general computer advice thread but couldn't find it, sorry if i missed it somewhere.

Penny Arcades general purpose computer thread. Theres some good info on the first page there. The system you linked looks pretty good and not too pricey for what you get (That is australian dollars?). I dunno about those "Gaming" peripherals. I find with a lt of them you're paying the price of whichever professional gamer is endorsing them.

You'd probably save some money buying the components individually and putting them together yourself if you're confident. Bare in mind that buying a complete system does get you some free tech support from the place you bought it from (usually), whereas with indiviual components you'd need to diagnose and fix all the problems yourself.
