Ghost can't be in the same time period as SC2. Notice the marine armor is different in the ghost cinematics compared to the Typhus in the SC2 cinematic.

Marine armor has significantly changed. Either that or Typhus isn't really a marine, but a reaper.

Good eye, also in the middle of the second picture you posted there is a billboard with the same guy which even says "Mengsk."

So considering the guy looks a few years older I guess it would be safe to assume the game's storyline takes place 5-10 years from when SC1 ended?

According to Blizzard, it's about 4; which was about when Ghost was supposed to happen as well. 2-to-1, Ghost would have lead directly into SC2.

Which makes me wonder if that's really a Ghost; or one of the super-duper new Spectre agents.

Well, the uniform reminds me of Nova's outfit from the Ghost art.

*gets lost for a moment, thinking of Nova's splendid if entirely virtual butt*

Er...right. So, you never know. Like I said: Mengsk seems to have a prediliction for hottie badasses at his side, so maybe the new Ghost uniform from SC:G was the result of reforms imposed by him?

Or she could be a Spectre. *covers his bases*

That's purely from a 1v1 unit cap stand point. You can also use the two units as cheap scouts, which was a common tactic with lings. I wouldn't mind more "ling/scourge" units, even if they are cheaper, do less damage, have less hp, but you get a shitload more. It will be quite difficult to balance this though, as 2 lings will consistently kill 1 marine, leaving 2 surviving lings if done properly (attack with 2 lings, move the ling that is taking damage away from the fight, so the marine focuses on the other unharmed ling, drag the 1st damaged ling back into the fight so you're fighting at full strength again)

actually, one ling will kill one marine unless upgrade levels are different.

    try it out.

I hate companies who put development time towards graphics at the sake of gameplay. As far as I am concerned, blizzard's "graphics last" approach is the correct approach to making quality gaming, and all the rest are stuck in the war of the shiny shit. *

SC 2 looks great, though. Look at the detail; much more impressive than anything in Dawn of War, but maybe below something like Supreme Commander - a game that most people can't run very well. I think they finally hit their stride in relations to processing power vs. design.

This is likely not a game we will look back on years from now, and think "wow, that looks like shit", like we do with Warcraft 3 now, or even WoW in some areas. The graphics are absolutely solid if nothing else, and there's nothing immediately wrong with them.

Its not really a "graphics last" approach though, its a purposefully make the graphics bad so every Korean internet cafe will pay $$$ for it ;-) . While I will admit its a good system for making a profit I die a little inside when I think of what they could do if they designed a game for current hardware.

Every blizzard game made is evidence against this statement. All of them have taken about 2 smart steps backwards from the graphical elite of the time, and settled for absolutely rock solid stylised graphics that do the job, look nice, and have the best performance, and then worked on the gameplay. They have never been on the cutting edge graphically, and they never will be on the cutting edge graphically, and this is a good thing, not a bad thing.

    Agreed. Style is the key.

Starcraft 2's units appear to look very distinct, and very 'clean', much like the original game's sprites. They're foregoing detail, but since each unit is "clean" (see any Jaggies? Not me), they'll hold up well.

Going for the newest technology doesn't always work out.

For example, Heroes III used beautiful sprites to represent it's units, and, while not technically impressive, I think each unit is awesomely designed even today.

Heroes IV, however, used ugly as sin 3D Models.

I'd rather Starcraft 2 had as detailed graphics as, say, Company of Heroes, but I don't mind how it is now - and most likely, Starcraft 2's will look better eight years from now (when they release Starcraft 3).

Well, there are missions that have a squad of marines running around in just a section of one of them, so I think they're fairly large, bigger than say a 747 passenger jet. An aircraft carrier might be a good bet.

You know that the lack of "jaggies" is due to anti-aliasing, which will almost certainly be off on older machines. Besides, you can turn on AA on other games, too, you know.

They showed them a few times in the cinemas. They are about that size. The cinema I remember is in that Brood War cinema where the battlecruiser is leaving the planet, and the Terran marines are fighting in that trench against zerglings. They look up and see it leave, and you can tell they're thinking, "well, this is great!"

The general consensus is that the Protoss is Zeratul and the Zerg is Kerrigan. After all, makes sense Kerrigan and Zeratul have a good ol' fist fight after what happened to the Matriarch.

As for the graphics, personally, I think they're perfect. They're not state-of-the art, but they'll hold up well. To be quite honest, the only Blizzard game that I can't stand to look at anymore is Warcraft 1. All the other games have such excellent art direction that the graphics hardly matter.
