need old processor to do a bios update on new motherboard

So I'm building a new computer for the first time in like 12 years! Just one little hitch, I need a ryzen 2000 series processor or lower to update the BIOS on my motherboard (I read about the fancy ones that can do that without a processor shortly after ordering the board, sigh) Also turns out my local computer shop wants to charge me basically what it would cost to just buy a cheap ryzen new just to do an update.

I live in southern Ontario, does anyone have an old ryzen laying around that I could borrow/buy? Alternately, does anyone know where I can find a local place that is not in Toronto that actually knows their ass from a hole in the ground?

AMD will loan you a CPU

Go Here and then look at the bottom of the page.

Whoa. I had no idea they did that. That is kind of awesome!

Yeah, most don't. I try to get the word out when people are buying older 450 boards as they will more then likely need an older cpu in order to flash to gen 3.

I heard that they get it to you rather quickly too. So good luck!

just reading over this, one question: How do I get "a summary or copy of communication with the motherboard manufacturer is requested to indicate why support from the Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) is not suitable."? I have a Gigabyte b450m ds3h, so I would have to talk to Gigabyte I guess?

Maybe put in a ticket with gigabyte and ask for a loan cpu so you can update bios.

When they say the don't do that. Send it to amd.
