I honestly don’t see Trump giving that much of a shit if Kushner was involved in Khashoggi. At worst he throws Kushner under the bus, more likely they just go through the usual cycle and get to “he did it and it was awesome”. I don’t see him bothering to change policy because of it, sadly I think the truth is that Trump just thinks Ergogan is awesome and is easilly talked into things.

I mean “Turkey had blackmail material” would be a good explanation if Trump were a normal person but Trump is not a normal person. “Trump is a moron and a sociopath who wants to curry favor among dictators (so he can figure out their secrets to winning) and doesn’t give 2 shits about human life or America’s reputation” is a better fit for Trump.

Ousted Ukraine ambassador Yovanovitch says she was told to tweet praise of Trump to save her job
According to the transcript, Yovanovitch she asked Sondland for advice on how to handle an onslaught of criticism from conservative media and Donald Trump Jr.

"He said, 'You know, you need to go big or go home. You need to, you know, tweet out there that you support the president, and that all these are lies and everything else,'" she told the committees. "It was advice that I did not see how I could implement in my role as an ambassador, and as a Foreign Service officer."
The depressing thing is that this was probably good advice

A big piece of the puzzle just fell into place, and the picture that’s emerging is pretty fucking crazy.

So on the one hand, Trump is trying to pressure Ukraine to investigate Biden for supposed corruption dating back to Biden trying to oust the Ukrainian Prosecutor Lutsenko (who was failing to go after corruption), and he’s using this unofficial backchannel to do it, featuring Giuliani and Giuliani’s “Fraud Guarantee” cohorts. The US Ambassador to Ukraine Yovanovitch is ousted, apparently for refusing to go along with the scheme. Now, through the SDNY investigation of the backchannel, we learn that the driving force behind Yovanovitch’s removal was... Lutsenko himself.

"[Lutsenko's] incentive to help was to take out the ambassador," said a former senior diplomat with experience in the region. "He was angry at criticism from the U.S. embassy over the slow pace of reform in the justice sector."

Another thing to note is why the hell did Lutsenko want Yovanovitch out to begin with? From her testimony all I can gather is that she insisted that information transfer from him (corrupt Ukrainian politician) to US officials had to be done through the FBI proper channels.

correct; it appears that Lutsenko was Giuliani's source for the Ukrainian conspiracies.

I'm wondering if Rudy was letting Trump in on the business dealings; if yes, that's another emoluments clause violation. if not, then I doubt Trump will be pleased that Guliani was trying to make a buck behind his back.

Sounds like a criminal violation of the Hatch Act (p sure it'd be the Hatch Act) to me!
It shall be unlawful for any person to intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce, or attempt to intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce, any employee of the Federal Government as defined in section 7322(1) of title 5, United States Code, to engage in, or not to engage in, any political activity, including, but not limited to, voting or refusing to vote for any candidate or measure in any election, making or refusing to make any political contribution, or working or refusing to work on behalf of any candidate. I'm not sure how much this really ties in, but if we assume that the United States returns to some sort of functional governance after Trump, how does the country deal with nations like Turkey and Saudi Arabia if the allegations around their behavior vis-a-vis Trump and Kushner are true.

The problem with the Khashoggi/Kushner thing (aside from it being completely hearsay) is that the article implies the House Intelligence Committee knows about it already. So if the HIC knows and the only “leaks” are coming from “White House sources,” I say take it with a huuuuuuuuuge grain of salt.

Not that it can’t be true, but this isn’t even in the ballpark of proof. That said, if it is true and the HIC knows, we’ll find out during open hearings.

The core of Giuliani’s involvement appears to revolve around his work with two businessmen, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, who were arrested and charged last month with making improper U.S. campaign contributions. They had been looking to expand their energy business in Ukraine.

She testified that she was informed by an official in Ukraine that Giuliani and Lutsenko were planning to “do things, including to me.”

The businessmen, she came to understand, “needed a better ambassador” to facilitate their interests.

She was told Lutsenko “was looking to hurt me in the U.S.,” adding, “I couldn’t imagine what that was.”
Well, that would make me paranoid.

Lev Parnas, Giuliani Associate, Opens Talks With Impeachment Investigators

Mr. Parnas could offer Congress a vein of information about a political pressure campaign in Ukraine.
An associate of Rudolph W. Giuliani who was involved in a campaign to pressure Ukraine into aiding President Trump’s political prospects has broken ranks, opening a dialogue with congressional impeachment investigators and accusing the president of falsely denying their relationship.

The associate, Lev Parnas, had previously resisted speaking with investigators for the Democrat-led impeachment proceedings, which are examining the president’s pressure attempts in Ukraine. A former lawyer for Mr. Trump was then representing Mr. Parnas.

But since then, Mr. Parnas has hired new lawyers who contacted the congressional investigators last week to notify them to “direct any future correspondence or communication to us,” according to a copy of the letter.

The lawyers also signaled on Monday that Mr. Parnas, who was arrested last month on campaign finance charges, is prepared to comply with a congressional subpoena for his documents and testimony.
The turnabout occurred after Mr. Trump denied knowing Mr. Parnas when he was arrested.

“Mr. Parnas was very upset by President Trump’s plainly false statement that he did not know him,” said Mr. Bondy, whose client has maintained that he has had extensive dealings with the president.
I hope he has tons of dirt.

Rudy's a true believer. I seriously doubt he'll flip on Trump like Cohen did.

He's not necessarily a believer. Rudy and Trump have a history of being at odds in the past but after "America's Mayor" became "America's Nothing" he hitched himself to the Trump train pull himself out of obscurity.

Oh, they're both scumbag opportunists, don't get wrong. But Rudy strikes me as having boarded the crazy train and someone who huffs his own farts with delusions of greatness, and so wants to surround himself with big wigs to support his $230K a month lifestyle.

So Rand Paul at a Trump Rally tonight was close to revealing the name of the whistle blower. So yeah I hope that guy is protected.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

The fever swamp has been abuzz that it's Eric Ciaramella for a week or so.

If you recognize that name, it's because the fever swamp has claimed that Ciaramella is behind the leak. Which leak? EVERY SINGLE LEAK SINCE THE START OF 2017. He's to the Deep State for them like Soros is to... well... you know.

I keep thinking that there must be a rock bottom to Trump and his sychophant's behavior and they keep proving me wrong.

Intimidating a whistleblower against federal law is just one more thing that should be thrown on to the impeachment pile. Shit like this is what gets people murdered if it's followed through on.
