Easy camping spots in the northeast U.S.

I realized I have a three day coming up and not much to do, so I plan to take off on a road trip for a couple days. Last time I did this I checked in to a camp site that ended up being more of a creepy trailer park.

I live in Maryland and plan to drive north for a good while. Nowhere particular in mind, but I probably won't be making it up to Maine or anything. I don't necessarily need anywhere amazingly scenic, just a place I can hang up a hammock and enjoy the cool weather in quiet and take a shower the next day.

I would recommend looking around the Finger Lakes area. Not that I have a particular recommendation, but there's a bunch of nice natural area there, wineries and breweries, and just generally a good scene to putz around and be lazy, possibly with a tent. Or east of there a bit in the Adirondacks.

What is this I don't even.

Shenandoah is full up according to their site.

Looking at places around Finger Lakes and they're booked up as well.

Starting to really appreciate the family campsite my grandfather bought back home decades ago.

WV has some gorgeous spots. Are you wanting car camping or wildnerness?

Car camping. My Fit's seats fold completely flat so I don't need a tent if there's any foul weather. Otherwise I'd like to just hang up a hammock, start a campfire, and eat jerky while reading.

Wife and I did Greenbrier state park a few weeks ago. Though if you have a 3 day, it might be worth going further. Unless you wanted to hop around.
I have a state park pass for MD btw if you wanted to borrow it.

A buddy of mine wont shut up about Acadia National Park, that's quite a bit further north.

Alright I found a place. It's not in the direction I'd hoped for but they have trees and a fire pit. Which is excuse enough to order a hammock and go to REI to look at sleeping bags.

My wife and I lived on motorcycles for a year and had to find places to camp every night. We've had a lot of luck with ioverlander.com, freecampsites.net, and hipcamp.com (it's like airbnb but for camping).

Seneca Shadows Campground near Seneca Rocks, WV is one of the nicest car camping spots I have been to.
