@Mr. G I am very interested in what you have to say right after you see Parasite

Because I just left a screening and 1) I thought it was actually perfect and 2) I honestly feel like I've been in a car wreck. Heart in my throat, words won't come out, and I'm just stunned. Disoriented

There were a lot of things that hit close to home

I am seated right now, it starts in 15 mins

I’m worried about it being overhyped but I am ready to love

Michael Giacchino is doing the soundtrack for The Batman.

I am ready for another kick ass Batman theme

I know folks love to dunk on the MCU soundtracks but I think Dr. Strange was legitimately great and this theme rules:

Out of the three movies I was hoping to see on my vacation at the end of the month (Parasite, Jojo Rabbit and The Lighthouse) only The Lighthouse is coming to my city

    Bummer

Google had a frequently asked questions thing that spoiled the ending of Parasite when I googled a showtime. So that was rude

In fact I have no memory of this song at all, which is pretty wild as I usually note movie soundtracks that impress me

In addition to the perfect Parasite, today I got to watch Wounds, a new horror release to Hulu

Starring Armie Hammer, with Dakota Johnson and Zazie Beetz also cast

If you 1) have 94 minutes to kill, 2) are a completionist in general or of any of those 3 cast member's filmographies, or 3) just want to knock out another new-to-you film for the month of October: you could Maybe do worse than this I guess, but you could certainly absolutely do better than this too
Armie Hammer is a bartender who's kind of a dick (Colossal is an incredible film that I keep thinking of, so maybe this got off to a wrong start in this particular department, because each scene Hammer drinks more and just becomes more erratic/uncomfy to deal with, it's Difficult to think it's not an inferior knockoff of Jason Sudeikis' character in that film, albeit with far less physical abuse than Jason commits)

While he works, regulars fight. Amidst the chaos, Armie recovers a phone a group of underage kids leave behind. Needless to say, from here shit hits the fan, but at a slow-for-94-minutes irregular pace, and never in a way that feels remotely satisfying or scary (though the jumpscares try)

What you get from this one:
Cockroaches. Lots and lots of cockroaches. More cockroaches than you'll ever want to see
Pics and nightmares of severed heads that aren't quite completely dead
A dude who got punched and stabbed with a beer bottle shard in a bar fight, sporting a progressively increasingly growing face-hole you end up seeing the gateway of Something inside by the end of it all
A cell phone that helps provide communication to whatever's in the face-hole portal that you see inside by the end of it all
The kids behind the cell phone being "left behind" fucking with Armie more and more
Dakota Johnson, Armie's character's girlfriend, looking up something from the phone and going into a trance looking up tunnels on the Internet, probably on the #darkweb because a lot of horror films are doing that nowadays
Armie Hammer wandering around getting progressively more drunk, confused, suspicious of everything/everyone around him and pissed at it all
Zazie Beetz, whose character is dating Armie's friend, getting awkwardly hit on by drunk Armie, rejecting it, and basically being shuffled offscreen after it happens because her purpose has been served as giving him more reason to be despondent and accepting of what the kids/phone/demon/whatever Really Wants, which is to fill the void inside him
Lack of focus. Overall that's just the main part: there's potential in each development and certainly in the cast, but nothing cohesive ever comes together, and if there's a bigger message or moral or Point to it all, it's lost in the process

If there's one thing I can credit, and in the interest of ending all of this on a positive note: I genuinely do want to show some praise to the best scene of the film, where Dakota Johnson just tears into Armie (after the jackass who just cheated on her breaks up with her, And makes it out to be her fault, for being mad at him claiming he's trying to protect her from the dangers he's starting to drag her into with this phone/tunnel mess). She calls him a shell of a person internally and says he doesn't want to keep her or himself or anyone else safe, he doesn't want anything period, nothing inside him is able to be satisfied

Dakota's my fav, she def deserved better than Wounds, but that scene was the one part where things briefly seemed worth it

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is a love letter to View Askew that I didn't think Kevin Smith could still do. It pays homage to damn near every film in the Jersey Trilogy in some way, and even builds on them with some deep lore cuts.

Unfortunately it has some scenes that are just plain bad, but the core of the film is solid, and it has a nice message, especially when it's hammered home by Askewniverse vets.

I used to love The Riddler as a kid until Seanbaby (I know...) pointed out that he just a regular criminal with no powers who tells on himself.

Does he ever take advantage of Batman's blind trust of his clues in the comics?

I like the story where the Riddler's big plan is... that he's not going to leave any clues this time.

Except he subconsciously left enough clues for Batman to solve; he literally couldn't not do it even when it the last thing he wanted to do. This makes the Riddler realize he has a problem and willingly goes to Arkham.

batman & robin is a better movie than batman forever

Batman & Robin drops the pretense that it's anything more than goofy shlock and just runs with it, to the films benefit.

I forget where I read it, but I did like the one Riddler short where he was in the police interrogation room and he breaks down. He reveals that he was the Riddler because he was tired of being ignored.

The panel that follows shows that the cops behind the 2-way glass had left before he even started confessing.
