So I'm in the late game story (after 8 badges) and:

I really wish they had went so much farther into this being a martial arts style tournament story, with more side characters built up as potential opponents and rivals to join Bede, Hop, and Marnie. Have fun story stuff with them, make a villain more along the lines of OG Team Rocket, foiling their plans but nothing earth shattering plotwise. Keep the legendary pokemon in the post game, and have the latter half of the story focus on those rivals/friends you meet along the way and during the gyms, so you battled more of them at the end.
Have it at the end where some of them fight each other so you don't actually beat them all, have some twists in the plot (like maybe Dede losing before the finals as an example). I just got really into this tournament battle to decide who faces the champion and wish they had done so much more with it.

I'm almost at the first gym but the wild zones rock so far, aside from the dumb badge limitation of not being able to catch stuff above 20 I get it but ugh back tracking for a xatu

It technically teleported out but I learned after the fact I can't catch it any ways

Do the number of berries I use in cooking affect the outcome? Should I be mixing berries or sticking to one type?

you need to be stacking berries of a particular type to make a specific type of curry

rarity of berry affects the quality a lot

Spicy: Tanga, Cheri, Tamato
Dry: Leppa, Chesto, Passho, Chilan, Kebia
Sweet: Salac, Pecha
Bitter: Coba, Rawst, Aguav
Sour: Salac, Aspear, Wiki, Iapapa, Colbur
Neutral: Sitrus, Lum, Hondew

using 7 of the rarest berry in a flavor will max that part of the rating

btw its impossible to get the highest curry class (charizard) solo or AI assisted

you need an online partner who knows how to fan/stir correctly

I didn't, though. I like my big heirloom trunk. I bought loafers to match it, and will try to coordinate around it as often as I can.

I will say that I didn't mind Hop nearly as much by the end of the game, he at least.... kinda had an arc? Sort of

Marnie should have totally been the main rival though

I actually quite liked how the sorry played out having more than your player character have any agency or impact in the world. Sonia and Leon are doing stuff. You have 3 rivals with mostly different arcs. Hell even piers experiences growth and change. Hop turns into a hot mess then barely scrapes by in time for the epilogue to figure his shit out.

I just wish there was more. I'd kill for patch/mystery gift or whatever more epilogue stories

When the reporter asked me what I thought of Hop after the fight I responded that he was exactly the type of rival I knew he was. Cause ya dude was weak as shit. Guy couldn't even get one of my pokemon down. He is exactly what I expected and failed to rise even over that low bar.

I just want more of a challenge from my rivals. I routinely win every match without even losing half of the HP on my first pokemon.

I have no idea how Hop got through the fire gym with his usual crew. That kid is barely competent to fight the pokemon outside of town, has only 3 low level mons, and while he talks a lot about type advantages, he's never not using his grass guy against my fire guy.

The only fights that I found challenging were (whole game spoilers)

Leon. Partially because I was underleveled, partly because his Haxorus is kinda disgusting and the AI "predicted" a switch in and nailed me with super effective Iron Tail, and then I didn't expect Poison Jab as well.

Shout out to Nessa in the champions cup and her tailwind Pelliper into Barraskewda though, that nearly got me (thank God for STAB sucker punch)

make sure you are actually connected to the internet and not just local wireless

the game doesn't tell you this anywhere so it lets you set your code and sit there like a lemon until you realize

A coworker came up and asked what I was playing, then whipped his Switch out and we spent the last couple hours showing each other our favorite Pokemon, traded cards, sent Switch friend requests, and did a bunch of raids together! I feel like a kid again lol
