Hi everyone. I'm thinking about building a gaming computer from the ground up for the first time. After looking around here, this is what I've come up with so far. How does this look? Is it all compatible? Is it fairly high-end? Is there anything critical I missed? I really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

Unless you plan to double up on your video cards soon, I'd say you should look for a non-SLI version of that motherboard (or a different one) to save some money.

Case: that's a very ugly case imo, but I think you chose it because you like it's looks.

Hard Drive: Cheaper and the same harddrive? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148136

Mobo: nice mobo, but is it really worth the price? There's newer boards out now too.

    Processor: Awesome processor

    Video: Awesome videocard

Power: I have no knowledge about this PSU, I bet someone else knows though.

RAM: Are you going to overclock?

DVD-Drive: Dont cha think a DVD-Burner is hot like me... dont cha.....

Monitor: BenQ makes awesome gaming monitors, I do know they have an awesome 19" model atleast. Never really read anything about their bigger/widescreen LCDs. I do know that Samsung and LG make good 20 inchers (NECs too but theyre expensive).

Just some opinions, it's already a nice build though.

Hmmmm. Looks like I picked the wrong mobo. Do you think this would work as well (it's certainly less expensive)? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128012

As for overclocking...I'm not entirely sure what that is, so probably not.

This will be able to run Vista with no problems, right?

If you aren't overclocking the RAM, you could get a whole lot cheaper RAM and still get the same performance.

Saves you an assload of cash.

EDIT: Yes it will run Vista very good.

I see no problems as a Vista box. Just be aware that gaming on a Vista box right now isn't as "good" as gaming on XP. Vista will (for the most part) give you lower framerates and such. This largely due to the fact that ATI & nVidia can't pull their heads out of their asses and write a driver that doesn't suck ass and do the naughty things they've been allowed to do in the past (kernel nonsense, etc).

Yeah, but /carebear about those few frames. It'll be alot better than you have now (I assume) and I see no reason to buy XP if you're getting a brand spanking new computer.

Should I double up on that order of RAM to get 4MB?

Depends, the need for 4GBs of RAM isn't really there yet. It will probably come sometime, but by that time there will already be DDR3.
32bit OS (XP and Vista 32bit for example) only support 3GB (or so) max anyway. So you'll have to get Vista 64bit if you are willing to pay that extra 70-80 dollars for minimal increase in performance.

EDIT: BTW the new mobo you picked is perfectly fine.

Oh and on the second page we have the "Advice: Twice and Future Computer Thread". Usually "robaal" answers any questions there, I feel he has more knowledge than me.
