So, yeah. I have earthlink cable and it's being stupid. My internet connection goes on and off randomly, but lately it's been going crazy and disconnecting every 10 minutes or so. I know the details are pretty vague, but does anyone have any tips or something on how to fix it? It's especially annoying since I just got into WoW. Dying to a level 5 boar every 3 minutes is pretty depressing.
You might want to try unplugging everything. Once everything is off, turn on the modem and let it boot up, then turn on the router and let it boot up. You might also check to see if your router has a firmware update.
There are occasions when the firmware of routers get corrupted and need to be updated. Most routers contain a mini-version of Unix-Linux and can be replaced using a direct connection to the router using a computer running Windows.
This is just based on my personal experience dealing with one of the local ISPs, so maybe it is not your case, read the handbook that came with your router very carefully or stop by the manufacturer's website for help.

1. I occasionally use Bit Comet for torrents, but the internet wigs out even when it's not on.
2. The firm ware has been updated and we reset the power in the modem and router all the time. It's pretty much the only way to get it going again.
3. We replaced the router, but the problem persists. I looked it up online, and the best I could come up with was that apparently my router is constantly looking for an IP address, and I need to supply it with a new one. Or something along those lines.

Any idea as to what's going on?
