    I have to go in the next couple days to do payroll cause our boss insists on paper timesheets and they don't want those leaving the office.     Did you know that April Fools day has a really, really dumb origin? It most probably originated because of a change of calendar orientation. In Europe from the fall of the Western Roman Empire up until the high medieval period most communities in western Europe celebrated new year's in spring because it was when the planting season usually started. Well, for various convoluted reasons Christian churches flip flopped a lot over the idea of celebrating new years, and what should be considered the proper start of the year. Eventually, an influential pope in the 16th century introduced calendar reforms that among other things finally firmly set the beginning of the year as the start of January. (And it stuck, eventually.)

    Despite this, a lot of people carried on traditions and celebrated New Year's in spring. Other people, who thought the first group were ignorant bumpkins for not getting with the hip new calendar, decided it would be the height of comedy to throw ironically bad "New Year's" parties and give ironically bad "New Year's" gifts to make fun of said people. Because 16th century comedy, much like 16th century poetry, was terrible. And it stuck around as a time to pull shitty jokes, eventually getting locked down to just the 1st of April, presumably because people were sick of having to deal with whole weeks of terrible jokes.
